Just your opinion

Postby ARbowhunter » 04 06, 2016 •  [Post 1]

If you have searched for an outfitter before you know the homework you have to do. Even while trying your best, its hard. I have talked to several and finally kinda setteled on one. I called and talked to him and he was great to talk to, I found some reviews, and the few I found was positive. There are also a couple hunts on You tube with him. He doesn't have any references listed on his site and while talking to him I had a list of questions. I didn't ask for refernces then but have e-mailed him to send me some, just a few to talk about the hunt. I have not gotten a response. It really don't add up, cause reviews have been positive. I would like to get booked but all advice I see on forums and articles say to talk to people that have hunted there. I had a friend who got burned by an outfitter a few years ago and its made me gun-shy. I really think his place is great but just want to be sure. What would you do? thanks for any advice>

I have never used an outfitter but my advice would be " What does your gut instinct tell you?" If he will not give references, that would throw up a red flag for me. Best of luck.

I would agree that talking past hunters, both sucessful and unsuccesful, is a big part of choosing an outfitter. If I were you, I would just call him and ask. Most outfitters get numerous emails daily, and it is possible the outfitter just missed your email and isn't intentionally not responding. If the outfitter has good reviews, I would think he would be happy to provide references

You definitely need to talk with references.

If I can help let me know. I book for 2 outfitters. One in Montana and 1 in Wyoming. Can't help you this year but keep me in mind maybe. Here's a link to the outfitter page on my website. See the DIY hunts page while you're there.

Good luck!
