Long Overdue.

So I have been wicked busy and I finally finished the last coat of finish on the knife. These are the scales that Norm from Elk Track Knives sent to me specifically for this knife. Thanks Again Norm! Sorry it took so long to get it done, and for the blurry pics.

Very cool knife. Looks perfect for chasing whitetails. My son is kind of a knife enthusiast. Does Norm sell kits and such. That would be a cool father son project.

Whitey- I may not use it on anything, I'm thinking about giving it to this guy that took me turkey hunting for the first time last year and taught me a little about hunting them. I need to clean up the blade and put a nice edge back on it and make a sheath for it.

I think he just makes the knives/sheaths, but its worth asking him, if you dont know already his handle is redtop. Shoot him a PM and say what he says.

While I wait on one project (epoxy drying and the like) I continue others, I have made a few knives now and each looks a bit better then the previous one. I waited to put pics of this one up because I was almost done with another one that clearly shows better craftsmanship. I'll explain that too.

Its stabilized spalted maple.

Here is the most recent one, I made it for an old timer here who is like a grandfather to me, I'm closer to him than my real ones. I have been using mostly his tools to work on my projects, and he deserves nothing but the best. He likes smaller skinning knives, so I looked at a lot of knives and chose to freehand copy one of Norm's. I love the design, and so does he. This time I remembered to drill the holes before hardening the steel . I couldnt find any brass rod at Lowe's so I got 1/4" copper tube. I left one hole open for a lanyard if desired, and for the other two I found some steel wire that was the perfect diameter to fit in the copper tube. The wood scales are spalted maple too, but they weren't stabilized, I looked into that process and realized it would be impractical for me ($$$ ) I was cutting up firewood and realized what I found and saved the logs for knife scales ! So i soaked them in olive oil to fill the pores a bit and finished with a poly-something protective finish.
