Last seasons, new hunting expieriences

This year I had a lot of new firsts. Most had to do with my moose hunt and changing from hunting elk from the desert to mountains.

One highlight was my wife being in camp in September, and October; and her request,.. she wants to rifle elk hunt next year.
Three incredible stalks on bull moose.
Messing with a spike elk for over 10 minutes, while he made the craziest sounds, and strangest reactions.
And putting a nice bull in front of my daughter.

Cool thread Lefty. I've gotta say that taking the time to put out a handful of trail cams at pre-determined spots (a month and a half before I landed in the area to hunt) was a big boost to my 2015 season. I've got the bug now, maybe more trail cams go out this year

I had a bull moose at 10 yards at full draw. Didn't know what was coming out of the bush... obviously didn't have a tag because luck would not have a nice bull elk come out of the brush like that after a breeding sequence call... so my brother decided to take a selfie with the moose... awesome experience..

Glassed 300+ elk on a ranch multiple times during the week. Listened to non stop bugling from the same elk herd for an hour one day. Unfortunately the elk were untouchable due property lines.

Discovered a 20 year old helicopter crash in my hunting area. Still eerie.

being into "herd bulls" almost daily was a first for me. of course I did get lucky and draw a primo unit but now I'm going to expect this all the time.

For the first time I felt my age, and realized I am dealing with more limitations. After butchering an elk packing out and packing out 3/4 of it, I was totally beat. I used to pack out the whole elk from the same place and just be tired.

I was working through some very thick cover with the wind in my face trying to do some lost-cow type calls to cover the sound I was making as I moved. I had to get from point A to point B, so why not. Took a pause and looked over my left shoulder and a BIG black bear was working towards me, but hadn't seen me. He'd obviously heard the calls, not sure how interested he actually was, but he was only about 20 yards away and hadn't seen or smelled me. Had a chance to draw my .44 and then give a little yell at him. He looked at me and then turned around and waddled away. Man was he fat...

Also, didn't see any, but heard my first pack of wolves howling.

Last year was my first elk hunt ever.

I took my 15 yr old daughter with me and we hunted a great 4 days together. we had 3 cows walk right up to 6 ft from us while we sat in some downed timber watching a trail, saw deer and elk every day from a distance. and even had a young black bear boar walk past our sitting spot and stop 15ft from us and rise up and bark at us and them walk away. my daughter told me is was the best 4 days of her life.

The smile on her face made all the hard work and prep and money spent totally worth it.

For me it was just more time in field and stalking in getting close to big game finally. 2nd year archery deer hunting. Late season and I was within 50yrds 2x the same day with no clear shot. Talk about getting pumped up!

You got lots of really good footage and better yet some good information on when the big boys change routine. It was interesting seeing cams images from miles apart on the same day suddenly show bulls, when all it had been was cows before that...
