Gear Bags

So.....

I'm off to Wyoming in 2017 for a pack in hunt in the Bridger/Teton Wilderness Area. The wrangler wants us to use gear bags to pack our stuff in. 35 pounds per bag is his restriction, not including bed roll. I was looking at the 30 inch Carhart bag that is water resistant via Bass Pro. We have about a 28 mile horse ride to our camp, which will make for a long day. These bags can also be used on any hunt and be tossed in the back of the pickup without too much worry of the weather.

Anybody else use this method of loading a mule? My thought is to buy 3 and have my bedding in the 3rd placed atop the panniers then cinched down.

Ask you guide/ wrangler what he prefers . Who knows you could just be loading everything in the panniers at the trail head and not even using your bag. A a construction trash bag may be enough.
Good hands need to be fussy about how they load their animals.
Again ask what he wants .

Dry bags are awesome and I guarantee any outfitter is glad to see them. Weight two evenly and tell him you did so he knows he can put one on each side.

The biggest issue with some sleeping bags is they can be bulky. Use a compression sack for that. Cabelas makes a waterproof one which is a good idea for something as important as your sleeping bag. He might top pack it.... he might not. Top packs are a last resort. Packers usually try to keep the weight low if they can.
