Anyone ever used Cabela's TAGS program?

On the surface it looks like a good deal. Anyone know more about it? I was thinking about applying for New Mexico through it until I got lucky.

It's been a long time since I looked at the details of their program. There are other people offering similar app services like Huntin' Fool.

The one thing I look for when it comes to those guys is whether or not I have to use one of their outfitters if I draw the tag. Some require you to do that while other don't and let you network with other members who have hunted the area on their own. Usually the ones who put up the money required for license application want you to use their outfitters and the ones where you have to pay don't. For states that require you to pay the full amount which can be in the thousands just to apply it's nice if they pay it but I'm a DIY guy so that's why I don't use them.

If you really want to start applying in lots of places the benefit of using them is keeping records of everything you have going on and knowing about application systems, seasons, and old and new regs. Who wants to learn all that stuff about a state you may never even get to hunt in. Not that those guys don't make mistakes. I remember when one of them didn't get client apps in on time. Yikes! It wasn't Cabelas though.

I'm not certain how they have it set up but from what I understand you give them a CC# and they handle everything from there. They will "float" your license fee until you successfully draw. There is no obligation to go with one of their preferred outfitters.
