Has anybody seen this new movie yet? I'm gonna try to go this weekend. I don't go to a lot of new movies (in fact hardly any at all each year) but this one has me willing to brave the chaos of the theater

Funny you say that. I never go to movies. They end up on television soon enough for me. But I plan to go see The Revenant. I have to ask myself though... what the heck were the true events that inspired that wild looking flick?

Not positive, but I think it's based on the old Hugh Glass story much like the much older movie, The Man in the Wilderness. I think Mrs. Phantom and I will go Saturday night and check this one out.

Great movie! I've always claimed my all time favorite movie is "Jeremiah Johnson" and this is similiar in a lot of ways. Great special effects and it is based on a true story. I imagine they took some Hollywood liberties but it is very well done. Well worth the time and money.

Pilgrim you just made one HUGE statement. In my world nothing will ever top Jeremiah Johnson so if it even comes close WOW. Now I'm really intrigued.

How about the scene in the preview where the bear is chewing on him. Yeah.... I think I'll stick to my non-grizzly units!

Saw it last Friday...was so-so. The scenery is fantastic and good storyline - but 3 hours of Leonardo was almost too much for me.

I saw the movie Wednesday. Huge disappointment. I cannot believe that it has got an academy award nomination for anything.

Movie started with the sound of a distant elk bugle - I thought I was hearing things ! Well that may have been the highlight of the movie. When the hunter stalked the Elk - it was a computer generated, animated Elk that looked more like a Red Stag than an Elk. Totally fake looking and I just couldn't get over it. Every time an animal appeared in the movie , it was more of the same - Fake elk, fake Bison, fake wolves, fake gut pile. The gut pile looked like a slimy muscle suit - thats not amazing special effects in my book.

Poor character development. Weirdly sympathetic to the native americans. Weird flashbacks to characters not previously seen.

There were some very entertaining moments, and great scenery. I wanted to love this movie but it was just not that great. Clearly produced and directed by someone who has never stepped foot out of Hollywood. Depicts nature they way they imagine it must be. Odd. Probably will be loved by city folk.

I would still go, but don't expect Jeremiah Johnson

I really enjoyed the movie. It could have been done better but again, I enjoyed it. Lots of small stories within the big story keeps the viewer engaged IMO. Now I'm anxious to get the DVD when it comes out so I can watch it a handful of times. For such a long movie (a bit less than 3 hours I think), I thought it moved along pretty well. On the Six Point Bull movie WT rating scale, I give this movie a Five Point rating and recommend it.

Finally made it out to see this flick.

Pretty good. Those old tyme mountain men sure were slobbery and boogery. lol Lucky he saved that chick!

If I was the young kid that was riding with the murderous dirtbag the movie would have ended a lot sooner!

Thanks Seth that's some really good stuff. I love the true stories about the old time mountain men. Those guys were some wild dudes. The injuries and hard times they lived with makes you wonder if you'd really have liked to live back then. But I'll take it I think. Roaming areas like that on a horse would have been awesome. They did have Sheetz and Wal Marts here and there for bullets and whiskey right?
