Daily Supplements?

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 12 20, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Whaddya you cats munch on a daily basis during a hiking your buns off, multi-day to week or longer, big game hunt to keep your energy up? I've always just tried to eat right, gobble a daily multi-vitamin, and swallow a couple of ibuprofens (to help from being sore). I know there's some next level stuff out there and would like to hear about your thoughts on some of the options.

I use only trail mix or other snacks until lunch or dinner. I never take anything like ibuprofen, or Aspirin.

I usually snack on trail mix most of the day, as well as dried fruits. I only take an ibuprofen mix after days where lots of miles have been put on.

The mix was created by a coworker who calls it the "post structure fire concoction" you take 2 ibuprofen, 1 antacid, 1 benadryl and you take it at the end of the day right before bed.

Helps make you go to sleep, ease the pain, and lessen the amount of acid build up in the muscles and you wake up in the morning feeling like a million dollars.

I try to eat good food, fresh fuit and veggies, I limit the red meat, eggs for protein.
Lots of liquids,.. mostly water and some fruit juices. I will do something like gator aid and or pickled pig hocks to help reduce leg cramps

Chocolate milk is actually just about a perfect mix of carbs and protein to be used as a recovery drink. They've compared it to expensive recovery powders like Endurox when used by athletes - no difference and it's much cheaper. Great idea to pound a glass or a bottle right when you get back to camp at the end of the day if you have a way to keep it cold.

For me every day: Glucosamine, Fish Oil, Multivitamin. A scoop of protein powder morning and night. An Electrolyte powder / drink morning, noon and night (Hydrate & Recover here too). Drink lots of water and eat well.

If I am out in the woods and away from real food, I eat a lot of mixed nuts and/or trail mix. In the mornings I drink instant coffee and eat the trail mix. I also usually bring some kind of protein bar. For lunch and dinner I have been eating the dehydrated meals recently. They are so easy, light and aren't bad. I used to pack a lot of canned goods but I only do that anymore if I have vehicle access.

I have always refused to eat that junk in a plastic bag where all you add is hot water.
I try not to vary my diet from what I eat at home.Too many guys do and they are racked with stomach cramp sand diarhea.
I eat a good breakfast that can vary from Steel Cut Rolled oats to eggs, hashbrowns, and ham.
Lunches and snacks are jerky, dried fruit, trail mix of some kind, crackers,a pudding cup and a cup of fruit along with a lot of water.I stay away from any candy with chocolate in it .
Supplements are Chrondroitin/Glucosomine, and a daily vitamin. As soon as I get back to camp, I take some Tums and an Advil. The Tums really helps that Acidic PH buildup in the muscles.
Evening meals vary a lot from Mexican dishes ,ruebens, elk steaks/veges, stews, etc. I want my protein to come from meat, not some cardboard tasting bar.
