Xmas Stocking Stuffer for Hunting Buddy?

For any of you looking for a Xmas present for your buddy (or yourself), I highly recommend James's Poison Arrow Gear, pretty cow face decoy. I've had one attached to the last arrow in my quiver for two seasons now and am amazed at how those big galoots just stare at it when they come in.... probably the most significant piece of gear I've added to my elk tool kit for many years. Looks like that might be a big help to a solo hunter.
I'd like to know a bit more about it before pulling the trigger on one, i.e. weight, how it operates (locks open, and closed), matl. of the mount, how it mounts. Couldn't find any of that on his website except pics of prototypes. Well I hope those were prototypes in the close-up pics.

David, they're just a bit over 3.5 ounces I believe, locks open with lightweight rods/shock cords, mounts on the last arrow in your quiver, and folds back down and into your quiver rolled up with a bungee type cord around it. Yes, it works well for a solo hunter as well as used during caller/shooter setups. I deploy mine when I'm the caller in a caller/shooter setup mostly. I've had many elk either come in (bulls) or feed right up by me (cows) while having the pretty cow face wiggling in the wind; it's amazing at how they just stare at it (grin). You can stud mount the decoy. I have to know that when you order so I can change turn the mount. As for the mount material, it is a glass composite.

Ridge, I deploy the decoy when I'm in the caller and if my shooter has a decoy on their bow, I tell them to keep it stowed away. I know what you're saying... "why would I want an elk to pinpoint me"? That makes perfect sense and I agree but there are times for sure that a solo hunter can make use of the decoy. One thing pretty dang cool is that the deployed decoy hides your draw if you have one coming in, or, have stalked in close and it's time to draw. The PAG decoy sure holds their attention for seconds or oftentimes, much longer. The arrow mounted decoy can be removed from the quiver and placed on a branch, stump, etc., when hunting solo in a calling setup (similar to any other non-bow mounted decoy). The bull I shot this year came off his cows, twice, and stared at me in a full stop position for a few seconds each time.. My partner/shooter could not get a clear shot either time but I did the second time old stinky came in and stared at the pretty cow face. I know Slim9300 has a VID he made in a foggy meadow. It shows him walking with a bull in the meadow with the decoy deployed. I'll see if I can get him to post it up.

I am getting my hunting partner(My brother) a 20 lbs. bag of rock salt.

Let me explain.

This year my partner was not as physically prepared as he usually is. Long story - new girlfriend, played a lot of "tennis" instead of doing Century bike rides.

I had been hiking through the neighborhood to the rec. center with 80 lbs. of rock salt in my freighter pack - trying to get in shape for success. Needless to say, my wife and friends think I am nuts, and enjoy ribbing me about my backpack full of rock salt. My partner even had fun joining in on the good natured ribbing.

When my brother shot his elk at 13 yards in the last hour of the last day, we were a bit beat down physically from a hard week of hunting. Well after the 2nd trip, my brother "bonked" and could not go. This left me to do the last trip myself, and the last load was about 100lbs. - well beyond my comfort zone. So he is getting a bag of rock salt to kick start his training next year! I hope he actually uses it instead of the "tennis" work out routine this year.

Of course, I am getting him some TAGS game bags, a coin purse full of milkweed fibers, and a foam sitting pad also.
