Muzzle protection

Rifle hunters, what do you use to protect your muzzle while out elk hunting? Snow and nasty conditions, along with debris can certainly cause a bad result when finally pulling the trigger. I have read that electrical tape is about the best thing to use. Looking for options on my weekend hunt.

Brent, we (dad, brothers, hunting buddies) used to do this all the time when I rifle hunted. Used a small piece of black electrical tape over the muzzle to keep dirt, snow, etc., out of barrel and to prevent a real problem if I accidentally stuck my barrel into the ground. I'm pretty sure it doesn't affect anything as far as POI as I assume the tape would blow off during a shot well before the round hit the end of the barrel. I'm curious as to what others say as I'm certainly no rifle expert

yeah I am far from an expert! First time rifle elk hunter so I didn't even think about it until i was asked how I was going to cover it. Learning curve with new equipment!

Tape keeps dirt/moisture out, blows off b4 bullet leaves barrel, will not affect bullet flight.

My wife and FIL always used some sort of cellophane tape Something he used in his dental practice . For a scope cover he used cut tire tube rubber

As a kid our dad was constant about keep the barrel clean from snow and rain. . "Watch you barrel" " barrel up" most oft he time in a heavy snow it was "Barrel out" I didnt know any other way until I met my wife

X2 on the small piece of electrical tape. Rain or sun I always do it. Mud is way worse than rain or snow.

I always carry thin black rubber gloves that I use for cleaning when I kill an animal. I put the muzzle through one of the finger holes.

Traditions makes muzzle loading rain gear. Little balloons that go over the barrel. Gander Mountain sells them.

I have used those little condoms that Indian Summer suggested, and they work great. You can get the same thing for less money at Wal-Mart they are called finger cots. The ladies use them for sewing and you can get a lifetime supply for less than 5 bucks.They are somewhat thinner and less beefy than the others, but it doesnt take much to keep the rain/snow/mud out.
