Cold feet

My first post, just got home from my first elk Hunt in Unit 77 near Pagosa Springs. It was wet and fairly cold. I bought a pair of Danner 800 gr east Ridge 8" boots for the trip. When I bought the boots the guy at Gander Mointain also sold me a pair of gel insoles, these turned out to be a bad choice in cold weather. My feet stayed cold until I removed them. 2 other guys had the same boots and no issues. I contacted Danner and they are sending me a pair of wool socks and new comfort insoles. Lesson learned!

I have a pair of boots with 1400g insulation, and my feet were still freezing last novembee, despite thise boots and two pairs of wool socks. If im sitting still in the cold, my feet freeze. Nothing i can do about it but start hiking

I stay away from insulated boots unless I'm going to sit a place all day as my feet will sweat like crazy and then will freeze, even with wool socks. If I'm hiking all day, I'll just wear merino wool socks and uninsulated boots. This year when I'm hunting whitetails in a stand, I'm going to wear regular boots and socks to get to my stand, then change into thick wool socks and climb into my heater body suit and see how that works.
