Just want to send a thank you to Indian summer,Elknut1, Phantom16, Jmez, and to whom ever I forgot!
Did my first elk hunt and could not have done it without you guys wisdom and knowledge and support. Although I did not see a single elk, I am hooked for life! I saw some awesome scenery, hung out with my brother ( who just came along to help me pack out an elk and just hang out) and enjoyed the moments. Thank you guys for sharing your wisdom and experience.

Would like to second that thought. I have chased elk now for 7 years without a bow kill but this year my learning curve took a big leap. Through reading many of the informative post here and getting Paul's dvd I was able to put much of the info into real hunt practice . I actually called in Bulls this year. Yes more than one. Lol. Withou the willingness of folks on this forum sharing their knowledge I would have never been able to accomplish any of the call sequences I used .
Next step is to get my hunting buddy more accomplished at calling and we both bring home an elk. Either way thanks to all again for sharing

Sounds like to guys faired just fine! There are many ways to measure a successful hunt! Finding & getting into elk for newer hunters is a feat itself, putting one down is icing on the cake! (grin) Keep your boots on the ground & continue to build on your knowledge, you will see it will all start to come together! Good luck & thanks!

Dr. You may have not seen elk, but I am sure you learned a lot. You also have a base to build onto. The next hunt will add to the lessons you learned this time out. Once is a great while a new hunter goes out and kills an elk right away. I suspect you learned more than they, and will know how to hone your elk education more now. Today you know personally; it is not easy, and no matter what you read here, elk hunting is always a great challenge. Even for veteran hunters, that know their hunt area and know their query, public land elk are never easy.
If you explain what process you used to locate elk and the area you chose to hunt, maybe you can get some pointers here that will help you next season.

I also want to thank the guys on this forum for the information they have shared with me this year.

I have read a lot of books about Elk the last 5 years, and the Elknut Playbook is the most original, thought provoking, and practical manual out there in my opinion. Pauls "advertising sequence" is an effective, aggressive, bold, ridiculously enjoyable way to hunt elk in September. I am really fine tuning my gear and strategies based on the feedback I get from this forum. I can't believe how humble and generous the guys on this forum are sharing their experiences and knowledge. It has been a great time and I very much appreciate this forum.
