Tag soup

Just wrapped up our elk hunt. Spent a week in Colorado flat tops. Unit 25. Had fun, but got skunked. Not once did we find any fresh sign. Everything looked to be atleast a week old. Never saw a elk. Heard a few bugles. Covered as much ground as we could. Just never turned up anything. We hunted Sept 19-25. Any thoughts on the area? Going in we seen 2 bulls being packed out. The time we was there never ran into any other hunters.

I've heard it can get really crowded in there...How many other hunters did you see there?

The Flattops is a big area and I've hunted there a good ten times. Had some banner years and some duds, just depends on if you can find the elk. If you can find them, there are lots of elk. But when they are pressured away they seem to be literally nonexistent. Been there... Shoot me a PM and I'd be happy to share where I've been - a couple good spots to go and a couple ones to avoid... I also know where a couple outfitters camp/hunt, for what that's worth.
