Change of plans

Well me and my hunting partner have been putting in for ML tag in Colorado unit 75 for a couple of years. We finally drew this year but do to a death in the family we had to return our tags. Our new plan is to go 2nd rifle. My problem is I've never hunted this late and don't know what to expect as far as elk movement and vocalizations. We are packing in about 10 miles to an area we've hunted several times (camp at about 11000') but would appreciate some advice on a plan of attack at this stage of the game.

thats a long pack in.. or out with an animal. I think the rut will be done, most bulls should be off by themselves and the cows would likely be together. I have noticed that if the snow comes in heavy you should be able to find the a bit lower, but if the snows do not come then they will be up high.

What about hunter population?

Packing in ten miles is a long way and I'm sure you would escape most hunters by doing that. However, I would definitely pay attention to the weather. If there has been significant snow, the elk won't be up at 11,000 feet. The weather could also complicate a ten mile pack in. I assume you are utilizing horses to pack in that far? One other thing I would suggest is contacting the CPW field office for that area. They should be able to give you a good idea on if your plan is solid or not.
