3rd rifle co 28

Postby powderhogg01 » 09 25, 2015 •  [Post 1]

My buddy, who is just started hunting this season, drew a 3rd season 28 cow tag. Then I was able to convince him to try bowhunting. I tried my hardest but was not able to get him an elk, though I feel we had more then enough opportunity. With his lack of success with the bow we are determined more then ever to get him a cow. I am curious what suggestions are out there for finding cows in the later seasons. Unit 28 covers a lot of area, researching the migration routes and stuff like that now. any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I live and hunt in 28. Certain areas can become crowded pretty quickly during rifle. Is the tag good for 18/28 or just 28? Feel free to PM.

PM sent. I really want to keep this fella stoked on hunting, I think getting skunked during archery left a bad taste in his mouth,we are both respectful hunters and appreciate any heads up. We may look into an area we hunted this summer, but more then willing to take advice from someone with feet on the ground elsewhere.

as the seasons wind down we are closer to the 3rd rifle here in co. I have been out scouting a few times, and have seen elk everytime. I am hoping for a little snow as it would not take much to keep the masses out of my honey hole. I have not found any giant elk herds, but have seen a few cows and bulls still on the mission of getting it on. I know that will likely be done by the time I am back out in the woods, so I am not putting much into calling, rather finding where they are and sneaking in to get it done. Been out shooting the rifle, its shooting dead on at 200. Ready to help my buddy get his first big game species and to re-ignite his passion for hunting after getting skunks in archery season.
I have been seeing a lot of elk in unit 39, though its not open for the tag we are trying to fill, if anyone needs some pointers for 39 PM me and I can give you a bit of intel.
