here is the story
i rode my motorcycle up a trail, shut it off where i wanted to work down a ridge. { have killed 2 other bulls on that ridge}

about 20 seconds after i shut off the bike , a bull grunts 300 yards away. sweet. i hustle over to about 125 yards ish from mr bugler. he has bugled a few other times. i was quiet so far. i put an arrow on , did 2 soft cow calls and the bull answered right back. the ridge is semi open i could see anywhere from 20 to 100 yards. but the bugler was just over the crest of the hill. perfect wind, before the sun started hitting the hill and makeing it dishonest.

so after he answered the cow calls i started to slowly creap closer to mr bugler. { in what i call stealth mode} face paint full camo, chuckler bugle at ready.
i slithered about 20 yards closer as i was working in , very slowly i might add . i look to my right and behind me and see a bull feeding his way in my direction.

my first thought , this could be a short elk season.

anyway he is feeding my way bout 80 yards and im poined at about 11:00 he is at 4:00 . i watch him put his head down in the grass so i slowly very slowly turned his way. he keeps feeding now broadside behind a tree i unzip my rangefinder out of my pack... zzzzziiiip , no bull reaction , 60 yards . i think hmmm the bull is totally calm, the Doc is totally calm. so i shoot . { yes 60 is a long ways, and im under bowed. } i shoot a 83 lb bow , 490 gr arrow , 92 lbs ke, yes i think im under bowed {ha ha } i dont advocate 60 yard shots, this is the farthest i have or will shoot. in hind sight i should have waited. {hind sight 20/20 saying was thought up by an elk hunter, im sure}

any way i hear crrrack, the bull turns and walks about 15 yards , all i could see was his ass and up through to his front shoulder but through the brush, or i would have shot again.
so i give 3 quick cow calls to calm him down and mr bugler just goes nuts, he is really getting excited now. so after 4-5 min the bull i shot at walks calmly off. im still frozen, havent moved a bit. so im thinking i better get up to where my bull was standing to make sure i got an arrow in him because the bugler is on his way in searching for this cow. he is spouting off about every 45 seconds.

i sneak up to where my bull was standing, yep he is hit. so i set my bow down and start cow calling hot and heavy to mr bugler . he goes nuts, bugle bugle bugle closer closer. then i see another bull walking broadside through the trees at 35 yards. { i sent paul the video off my phone, hopefully he can put it on here. im not smart enough} he messes around, then walks in the direction my bull went.also a cow and calf

then another bull , a larger 5 point comes out and walks into the same opening, bugleing at me, with another bull behind him bugeling allot.
thats all i can type for tonite, ive been butchering elk meat all day, only 2 front legs and grinding burger tomarrow to go.

all I can say... is that must be nice! I just got back from my hunt and had a totally different elk hunt. I heard crickets..... out of a 13 day hunt, I had 2 elk bugle to a call. one bull bugled once and another 3 times, before he shut up and we couldn't pin point him.. and they the rest of the time was spent walking and calling hoping for a response. I am truly jealous. congrats!!!
