Anyone Having Luck in Montana so Far

Anyone been out in Montana yet this season? Any activity or stories?

A buddy and I went out last weekend (opener) near Seeley Lake. Set up camp Friday and heard half a dozen bugles that night. Started raining sometime during the night and didn't really stop for most of the next two days. Heard some bugles Saturday morning but never could see any elk. Had a few crashing sounds running the other way but it could have been deer or elk (I'm convinced they were elk ). Al I. All hiked over 21 miles in the three days so we got some ground covered. Went out today near Kalispell and saw some does but no elk. It was a new spot to me but something to do on a day off. I kept hearing something like a popping grunt (maybe?) but it would only be one note the. Nothing for thirty minutes.

Tomorrow heading down to Shanley Creek block management. Never been there before either but we will see I guess.

I hunted every day or parts of every day opening weekend in 313. Quiet in the morning but lots of bugles in the evening on opening day. Snuck to within about 60 yards of a bull that was trashing trees and even uprooted a few dead one. He was mad because he thought I was a bull there to take his cows. I came within a few yards of arrowing a cow during that encounter but was busted by another cow I didn't see until it was to late.

Not really anything to speak of since then.
