Elk spooked

I was just sitting there watching an elk that was bedded down. I was down wind of him so I know he did not wind me. I was about 60 yds and watching him through bumps. A squirrel dropped a pine cone on his head and he took off like a rocket. I have been on his trail all morning. He was silent since I picked him up a little after sunrise. I am working my way out to let home settle down. Will try to locate him again this evening.

I can not say that said squirrel DID or did not get shot.

I did find him again a little while ago. There is a cold front moving through this part of Idaho right now and the wind is not my fried. I think I have his travel route so will be waiting on him tomorrow morning.
