What stove?

Looking at getting a new stove for backpack hunts as well as truck based hunts such as speed goats. Will be hunting in country that you need a dependable stove (flyouts in Alaska) I'm looking at the MSR whisperlite because it can be used with just about any type of fuel. Stove needs to be reliable in cold weather.

The real question I have is can you fly these stoves on a commercial airplane? I have come across some issues with people flying various types of stoves. I know you cannot fly the fuel, but the stoves aren't an issue, correct?

They won't let you fly fuel bottles commercially unless they are brand new. Keep the tag on it. I haven't had an issues with the stove, yet. The Whisperlite is a great dependable stove but if you need to melt snow for water an XGK is a better choice. They don't really simmer though. If you are really out there take two stoves just in case.

best stove I have ever had, runs on anything flamable pretty much... though dirty fuels need to be kept to a minimum as the carbon is a pain to clean out of the jets

I used the whisperlites for years guiding extended backpacking trips and they were great - easy to use, fairly small and lightweight, and easy to maintain and repair in the field if needed. I just bought an MSR MicroRocket to try this year. Ultra small and lightweight, but haven't tested it out yet. Not sure if I'm going to like the ISO Fuel canisters, but I'm trying to go light and fast, so we'll see. If I don't like it, I'll probably go back to my Whisperlite.

Thanks guys. I will probably go with that stove. Hopefully the airline thing isn't an issue.
