McCall Idaho

Postby Buck » 08 24, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Hey guys,

So I spoke with a biologist today and he pointed me toward the McCall elk zone form first Idaho hunt. He mentioned checking out areas east of McCall and after checking out the maps I think i have an area picked out for a few day hunt.My question is where are the fires right now, which mountains, roads, draws are being affected. Do you think these fires will clear and land will be reopened by mid September? Im moving out and should be there around the 14th and plan to hit the ground running for my first Idaho archery Elk hunt. Any Info would be great, i'd hate to head out to my spot after a 42 hour drive and find it on fire...

First off, where are you driving from that it takes you 42 hours?

Yep there are a few fires but the season will still be open. Avoid the affected areas & hunt! You can search online for the fires going on in the Zone, steer clear from them. Not a big deal as it burns here every year from lightning strikes mostly, you learn to expect it & live with it.

Can't help you on Idaho, but good luck! My drive isn't too different - heading from Boston to western MT on the 11th.

Sorry..... mine is more than 2 and less than 4...... depending on traffic and how bad the 13 miles of gravel road is but I stay in State. And I can tell you this.... from central California to northern Washington IT'S BURNING AND SMOKEY!!! I have 2 buttes/mtn's less than 7 miles from work and I CAN NOT see them from my window right now. (Oregon)

By the looks of it the areas I have blindly picked by looking at a map are not on fire. Hopefully you guys get some rain out there soon so we can all have a successful year and so more fires don't pop up!

That's pretty much what happened to my buddy 2 years ago. He got on a flight from Connecticut to Boise. While he was in the air, my parents and I looked at the news and found our our spot was closed. Needless to say, he wasn't thrilled when he landed! The backup spot we went to that year is burning right this moment.
