The smoke is real bad today in Pocatello Idaho

As far as I know we dont have any fires with 100 miles upwind. The visibility is about 4 miles , bad bad bad. Saturday we we in the Salmon Challis Makay area and there were times visibility was 10-12 miles

Ya, it was terrible driving back from Ketchum on Saturday. From Boise to Pendleton, you couldn't see to the other side of the valleys each time we descended from one of the passes. Bad business for certain. Wonder if you're getting some smoke from those fires W of you?

You should see McCall!!!!! Not that much visibility here at all, 1-2 miles at best! It's thick here & we are surrounded by several close fires at present! It sucks!

Air quality alerts all around us. Red Flag fire alerts. Can't see out of the city. This must be what Pomona is like... or a volcanic eruption ...

Don't know where it's coming from but its not much better in Northern Utah! Headed South tomorrow,,,, see what it looks like there! Yes, it does suck!

My son is driving to BC for hockey through North Dakota, Montana, ID and WA. He said the smoke starts between Billings and Butte MT and visibility was getting low. He asked if there were any large fires west. I will have to tell him it only gets worse as he gets to Idaho! That does suck!

In SLC now and it isn't as bad here asit was in Boise. About the state line it started easing up.

I'm told the visibility is about 1 block in Kalispell MT not looking forward to it.

How do others use smoke/fires relating to elk hunting? I've heard recently burned areas can be good spots to hunt, but how recent? A lot of guys glass big open areas, but if you can't see more than half a mile, do you hunt elsewhere or change tactics?

At least your low air is clear.
Last night my daughter and I headed up to Montana. We were able to see mountains 50 -60 miles away. This morning when we woke up we counld'nt see the over side of the small valley we were in. And we didnt see the sun until it was 2 fingers above the mountains,... about 8:20 AM,.. bad stuff. I tried glassing a basin this morning,..I could only see the black moo-cows at a mile. Ended up calling it a day and came home

The smoke finally cleared out of here yesterday. I live about 4 miles from the foot of the Ruby Mtns and couldn't see them for 3 days. Very thick smoke. I'm glad it's gone...

I checked and the closest fire to us in Idaho is north of us 70 miles away. the big horns were real smoky for a day last weekend....
