Best camo face paint?

Been using tube type hunter specialties in black,just wondering what else is available that works better.

The stuff I used last year was camo FX by realtree in apg hd. It rubbed off pretty easy, it also says that it's scent free moments after applying. not true! I'm thinking dead down wind's black face camo this year. I killed a doe last year, wearing blue jeans while sitting against a tree but when given the option its camo all the way for me, my bright white face has given me away more times than I'd like to admit.

I was into camo makeup back in Rambo days. No mas. A beard helps, shading face w hat brim or hood is effective. Soot or ash from a campfire is cheaper than makeup, easier to wear and clean off, does not smell foreign to game.

That's what I resorted to last year, but our fireplace burns so efficiently, I had to pull out burning wood and put the lil fire out too much work than its worth.

Have you checked out Carbomask? I don't use face paint but that stuff seems like it should be good.

my friend has some issued by the Dept of Defense. he said it was zinc based, so it is a sun screen. damn genius. sucks my friend is undependable and cannot or will not get me some.

my brother uses one made by the Duck Dynasty. very good and washes off with a wet-wipe. my hunter speciaty stuff sucks. makes my face itch..so by the time i'm done, my fingertips are camo, and my face looks like the a prom queen after a jello match.

I get mine from the hobby store. Regular costume face paint. Ive used the ash too but I like to mix some white in to mix things up..

I carry a Hunter specialties compact. I put on the makeup when I think Im in the elk. I really cover my hands. I also have a face mask
For waterfowl hunting I use the HS cream based stuff, and white costume (Halloween) when hunting in the snow.

Leave camo face paint to the Navy SEALS. This Camo face painting is just a fad and will wear off just like the paint. You can call me ignorant or whatever you want but your the one with makeup on your face. I can see if your going to cover your face COMPLETELY like special forces it will darken and take out the high points but for most that is not the case. A few streaks across your face like most people do isn't going to bring in any more Bulls. It is unnecessary and one more thing to carry and one more thing to put on and one more thing to take off at the end of the day. Why mess with it and get it all over your hands, or forget about it and go to wipe sweat off your face and smear it on for shirt sleeve?

Well... If one is setup, and a bull is coming in, lets say this person is hiding under a fir tree-an evergreen. Depending on your race, if you put some black streaks along your face it can hide a bright white thing that's sticking out the top of camo clothing, or at least help it blend in to the dark limbs-that, as far as I know, grow on trees.

Well... If a person is hiding under a spruce tree they should be hidden shouldn't they? Anytime someone wears makeup and they shoot an elk, of course there going to say it works! You could also wear your wife's underwear and still shoot an elk, doesn't mean it helped you. But the proof is when people don't wear it and they shoot an elk. This lady is probably closer to an elk than you and your makeup has been. And you know what, the elk didn't see her. He was looking at the cameraman. All you need to worry about is being downwind and don't move. I would bet the farm that more elk are shot by people not wearing makeup. I'm not saying it will hurt anything but it's unnecessary, one more thing to carry,one more thing to do, one more thing to mess up. If your a serious elk hunter who packs in you know you don't carry anything you don't absolutely need. So leave the makeup at home for your wife. But if powdering your nose and sitting under a bush is how you fantasize about hunting elk, by all means go ahead.

I was not trying to pick a fight.. To each his own. I've never even seen an elk in person, but I have been hunting whitetails for a couple years now. To date I have only shot 2 doe's (plenty of spikes though ) two doe's two years apart, both times I was sitting on the ground against a tree wearing blue jeans, first time with a brown t-shirt, second with a camo shirt, both deer had 2-inch broadhead tipped bolts put through their heart-lungs. So yes I know firsthand that wind direction and being still are major factors. And that video is pretty awesome, but I have already seen it before. With this I respectfully bow out of this confrontation. Sorry to hi-jack your thread Foxvalley.

Just to play devils advocate... Could she have been wearing regular makeup? Like that tan powder stuff they put on. That could of reduced the reflectiveness of her face and appear subdued to the animal but not us.

I am simply trying to drive home the point that you do not need it. When you are hiking in to elk hunt for days on end, heck even one day you quickly learn to only bring necessaties; tag is number one, weapon & ammunition, water, food, knife, pack and from here on the importance lessens. Like you said you shot deer without Camo on. I agree you do not need Camo but a majority of the clothing that an elk Hunter would use is going to come Camo, so we buy it.

And I agree that the woman in the video was probably wearing makeup, knowing she would be on tv and all, it would be hard to find a woman that wouldn't. It probably did dull the brightness of high points on her face. But at that distance the elk was standing to her, I don't believe it made any difference. If she hadn't been wearing any the elk would have done the exact same thing. Which proves my point, un-necessary. It's like teaching your kid a lesson, somethings they just have to learn on their own. I was simply trying to let the un-experienced know.

i hate face paint..makes me itch. and just another level of stuff i have to wipe off. i now just use a first light neck gaiter..when it gets going..i just pull it up like a bandito.

I have to respectfully disagree with Dakota86's enthusiastic dismissal of face paint. No, you don't need it to kill an animal. But it definitely can help. I have a big round face. There is no doubt that if I F-up and move my uncovered face, it's like a white beacon to any critter around. But if I move my face with some sort of cover (mask, paint) it's significantly less noticeable. My eyes suck, so I have to wear glasses and a face mask gets foggy quick. Face paint is a good option.

Now, I'll also say that decorating your face with paint like the clowns on TV is ridiculous. If my hunting partners start putting designs on their faces that mimic KISS I'm finding a new partner. But I do believe that blacking out your face can be helpful in many situations.

I actually like the facepaint for elk hunting. I think Larry D Jones was the first guy in a magazine I saw wearing it. I think to a lot of guys it may be more of a ritual. Of course it is not needed to kill an elk. I don't think anyone is saying that.

I'll start with the face paint question. The best face paint I've used was originally called Chameleon, this was bought by Larry D Jones, and is now called Point Blank. It comes in a 5 color set, and doesn't sweat off easily.

Then the issue of whether or not you need paint, you don't need camo clothing either, but I'll bet all on here wear it.

I have always disliked wearing the stuff,but I always wear it,just like I always do scent control to the max.I only get a few good oppertunities every year to kill an elk,and I just can't afford to blow even one chance by being seen or smelled(as much),and need to control the things I can control.
That being said, I just ordered the carbomask,and will let you know what I think of this stuff. Hey freebird!

I just recieved the carbomask face paint, in black. Has the consistancy of liquid soap,and you squeeze a little on your finger and apply. I was a little worried as it was shiny going on wet,and takes a few min. to dry. After it did finally dry, I was VERY impressed,it is not greasy at all,and has no "feel on your skin" at all.I compared it to the stick type from dead down wind,which is a nice and small unit compared to the carbomask. But the dead down wind stuff is really greasy,not shiny, but really greasy, and took much longer to take off. Also carbomask is completly scent free,dead down has a little scent. The downfall of both of these is there is no mirror to see how you look,but am impressed with the carbomask.
