first or second week?

Postby the weasel » 08 05, 2015 •  [Post 1]

So I hunt Oregon, season starts last wknd in August. I have an Archery tag for Elk and Deer, just wondering if I take the first week off or the second? Full moon the opening week..... was going to try and sit on a spring I have found just off a saddle. what do you think? Area is pretty high pressure... not sure about walkers but road hunters big time!

I prefer the first week over the second. The moon phase makes so little difference that it is for all practical purposes insignificant. The first week the elk have been less disturbed, but the second you get Labor day off. Usually for sitting at a water hole the warmer first week is best. Rain the first week could mess things up for you. After the first week the bulls will be going to the cows. By the last week the rut is on and they move around a lot. That also can be a great time to hang out around a water hole. I like calling in the morning, and sitting in my stand in the afternoon during the last week.

Everything you said is running through my head! I was thinking opening week would be good for a water situation.. and the animals have not been super harassed yet.... I have the first week already off but thought about changing. Maybe the first week would be better and get some pre- Labor day madness hunting. As we have P.M.'d each other you kinda get where I'm at Swede. Thanks for the input.
