insight needed on arrow vanes.

Does anybody know how much an arrows flight is messed up if your vanes are slightly bent, if one has arrows with a slight helical, and one of the vanes is slightly bent the other way from sitting in the box that they came in? I try to keep the vanes from squishing each other-but when their sitting in a box, that's hard to do. So how bad is it if you have a vane on an arrow thats slightly off?

Not sure on the total effect, but I would want all helixed the right way. If you have a right helix and one is bent to left, I would think it would add some drag even if it flew straight.

Fletching your own arrows is not that hard. I would imagine there are a bunch of videos out there on it.

Also, I try and keep my arrows in positions so that the vanes are not in contact with anything.

How far are you shooting? I would guess it won't make much of a difference. One way to find out, shoot it with others and see if you have consistently bad flight.

I've never noticed any difference with warped vanes. I shoot a cardboard target and it gets soft after awhile so I end up getting pass-throughs which makes my vanes pretty wavy. They still fly the same...

For me doing this is too time consuming and expensive, at the time. In the future maybe. There aren't any places that I can put my arrows to solve this problem, I would like to get some arrow boxes, (the ones that hold each one individually) but cannot do this at the time either.

I am working on my form and out to 30-35 yard shots. As a result of the form issues I can't tell how good or bad the arrows are flying, they were bought from Basspro, a dozen in the box and they were pre-fletched so each arrow has at least one vane thats a little messed up...

Target pass troughs are becoming more prevalent for me too, now that my target is nearly shot out, but I can't get another one yet. The blazers seem to go right back to the shape they came in, as long as the vanes aren't stuck in the target(not complete pass thru).

There doesn't seem to be a very noticeable difference from arrow to arrow but they never group tightly at 20 yds even when I focus on my form, release and follow through, even when I'm consistent in all three departments. Do you guys think I should get another 1/2 dozen and really make sure the vanes are perfect?

some of my arrows are beaten down. a few i had to use clear packing tape to fix a few rips/tears.

i notice zero difference in flight. warped vanes especially. i typically put them aside and save them for turkey arrows where my shots are really at a close distance. but i have flung them out to the horizon and they all still group fine.

There may be if you are shooting 80-100 yards. That kind of distance will show small flaws and make them a big deal. 35 yards things are pretty forgiving.

I have this happen to my Blazers on occasion. I just dip them in boiling water and they pop back into the original shape.

With blazers you can generally just heat them with a blow drier and they'll return to original form.
