Hunt one unit, or multiple units?

I don't know that I've ever seen a thread like this before... are you faithful to one unit, or "spot?" Or do you travel and hunt multiple units/areas/states? If you hunt multiple areas what is the motivation to do so?

We no doubt spend 90% of our time in one unit but do wander now & then to others within our zone but this is generally when our goto areas are not producing to our liking. All in all we favor areas we are very familiar with, it has rewarded us well.

I'm a 1 unit guy, but have scouted other areas extensively. It's nice having a backup plan in case things go south in my normal area.

one otc unit and one draw unit...open to new stuff just havnt needed to yet

The last 2 years I have hunted one OTC unit but prior to that I hunted three different OTC units in five years. I continue to scout several units for a Plan B but only scout one controlled hunt unit in preparation for the day I pull the tag

I have hunted 3 different units in Washington, 3 rifle hunts
Two in Utah, Deseret CWMU and the unit above my home 2 rifle hunts
Forth unit here in Idaho 2 rifle hunts 6 archery hunts
one unit in Montana 2 rifle hunts

When I lived in MT, you could hunt almost any unit in the state on a given year. I hunted 4 or 5 units for elk, but definitely had my "spot" where I knew where the elk were and how they behaved. I was more successful in my "spot" than in others, simply because I was so familiar with it. Since moving to Idaho I have only hunted the same unit twice, and have really enjoyed getting to know different parts of the state. To me a lot of the fun is in the planning, anticipation, and preparation. I love gathering intel, pouring over maps and GE, talking with bio's and fish and game officers. Last year I killed elk and deer in units I had never stepped foot in before scouting last summer. This fall I will also be hunting a unit that is "new" to me.

Heard this song? "I'm a lover of the other side of the hill." I've hunted or been along on hunts in 20+ units in CO, and scouted in another dozen. I'm sure I would have taken more game if I stuck to a few units, but then I would have missed so many great trips to so much fine country. Last year I hunted 2 new units during archery, saw elk in one and heard elk in the other. Plan is to hunt a new unit this year and another next year.

I hunt several units every season in CO and a few different general units in WY when I go there. I also scout several new units every summer just cuz I'm an absolute elk junky . That said I spend a solid 90 % of my season in 2 different CO otc units.

Well, I've only been on one elk hunt which was in a limited draw unit. I'm just fortunate to be able to go back there again this year.

Next year however, will probably be a different story according to the draw statistics. I'll probably be in another unit next year but that's OK to.
So I guess my answer is, one unit a year for me.
