Bow Or Rifle, What Was Your First?

Well, what was your first little or big weapon? Mine no doubt was a BB gun! (grin) Shortly after that it was a Ben Pearson recurve bow! The bow won my heart over the BB gun in time! (grin) How about you?

Crossman BB gun. Kept many a sparrow out of my Mom's apple trees. Then a cheapo fiberglass recurve.

First one to call mine is a compound, it's only killed squirrels so far, but this year it's gonna get some venison! I've killed deer with crossbows and shotguns, but none of them are mine. This year dad bought me a muzzleloader!

First was a homemade bow and arrow. Killed a squirrel with a sharp stick. It wasn't a clean lung shot but he was my first.
Next moved to the BB gun. Killed many small critters. From the start we heeded the kill it you eat it rule of my grandfather. My buddy Mike and I roasted a robin and a chipmunk before we realized we needed more firepower.
Next was the Remington single shot 22. Rabbit was fair game then.
Jumped next to the 270 and elk.
I was born to hunt.
Can't really believe it's been 50 years since that first kill and I'm still killing and grilling.

Never forget the Christmas morning I unwrapped my Crossman BB gun. graduated to a Ruger 10/22. Been hooked on the outdoors ever since.

Daisy BB gun for me, after 10 thousand shots at birds,I finally head shot a black bird,and to my shock and horror,watched it fall out of the tree! Took it back to my fort,and kept it in there till it was nothing but bones.Stink yes, but did I care? Heck no, my first kill!!!
After that my dad buys me a fred bear recurve,at 9 years old, knee high to a grasshopper,and about 50lbs soaking wet, buys me a 45lb. recurve.....two years later I think I finally got it back to full draw.....I still think to this day thats why I have larger than normal arms.....thanks dad.....I think.

A peach crate with a rock on top and stick with a carrot tied to a string, rabbit hunting, then moved to a slingshot with a hex nut for ammo, BB gun, Ruger 10/22, 12 Ga 870 Rem. Wingmaster, compound bow I think it was a Hoyt, 25-06 Browning Medallion and many more and hopefully more to come.

Fiberglass Bear bow the kind for little kids, then a Daisy BB gun. Bow was always my favorite, still is to this day.

I'm originally from the city, had never hunted until I married my wife, her father bought me my first rifle (Savage 110 7mm mag) and I've never looked back!

Wrist Rocket slingshot w rocks or marbles as ammo, felt thrilled and awful the day I finally hit a ground squirrel. "Now what do I do?" BB pistol in the back yard. 22s and archery @ Scout Camp, hammer-cock 410 on pheasant hunts, Dad's 30-30 and then '06 for deer, 5 year old Browning compound, recurves, now a Mission compound Xbow. Several rifles and a nice old Winchester 101 shotgun these days.

Around 1970ish, dad brought home two new to us, double barrel daily BB guns for my younger brother and I. We had a ball with them for many years. somewhere in there, dad also bought us two litle fiberglass bows. Same timeline, little bro and I had these fake bearskin coats mom got us somewhere (they were the best). Good times. First real gun was a Savage over/under 20 Gauge/.22 dad got for us three boys to share (that was a great grouse gun). First real bow was a Darton SL50 wheel bow.

Neither. It was a self made sling shot from rubber bands, leather belt, and tree. Killed lots of bunnies and birds back in my teen.
