Game camera stealing!

Postby Stick » 07 26, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Has anyone had a game camera stolen? Wondering more about cameras out for elk than for whitetails. What do you do to prevent it?

It would never cross most of our minds to steal one but everyone is not as nice as all of us Elknuts! 8-)

Yes I've had one stolen and one smashed when they couldn't get it off the tree. These were miles from the road too. I have a cable and padlock for everyone of my camera now. It just helps with my state of mind

Ive had SD cards taken, some erased and placed back. Hats and bags over the lenses. Where I was set out last year the only locked tc were federal biologists tc.
I try to hide them in the woods.
Setting over bear baits they are obvious and we hope others are honest
a pic checking the SD card last night
I had at least 7 different people ride by over the past 24 days

I had 4 stolen last year at my place in WV, 2 of them were down in a hollow only accessible after a decent hike up and down the mountain, so Im pretty sure someone is hunting it as well. I put cheap trail cameras back near the areas they were taken before with black flash cams up in the trees 15' up) just a little down the trail. Now if I catch some one I just have to keep my temper in check, pretty sure its a kid judging by the glove I found.

I found one over a water hole a few years back. I asked the Land Owner if it was his and he said "no" but he suspected a know poacher. I checked the card for photos and sure enough his photo was on it as he was setting it up. I gave the camera and card to the land owner but the Sherriff declined to site the owner of the camera. Long story but short version is that I have the camera now.

Lost a card out of my deer stand. Three years never even one pic of a hunter at my wallow, and yes it's that hard to get to.

Nope. But I did have a backpack stolen. I was shocked anyone was in the area, and more shocked that a fellow outdoorsman would do such a thing.
