Rifle rookie

So I drew my MN bear tag this year and I'm pretty sure my wife won't be cool with me being gone all of September, so I think I'm going to try to get a leftover 4th season tag for CO. I have a decent amount of archery elk experience, but I've never rifle hunted them. The positive side of this is I can take one of my buddy's that has been dying to elk hunt, but can't bowhunt due to a bad back/shoulder. Any tips from you experts? Anything in particular I should look for in a unit (I'm assuming they won't be too high come November). Any good reading material/videos that focus on rifle hunting?
