good lightweight boots

what are some good lightweight boots for long distance walking. nothing to steep up and down, gonna be hunting in new mexico. more rolling terrain

which ever ones fit you best, you need to try many on a buy by how they fit not brand!!! For light hikers Merrels fit me perfectly, I also have a pair of Cabelas that seem to be made by merrel that are nice!

Go to rei or cabelas and try on a bunch!

Depending on your foot and ankle strength you can get away from using a heavy boot and go light which can be more comfortable. Along with makes sure they fit and are comfortable for up and down hill walking.

You can also check out russellmoccasin.com This is a made to order boot co. that custom makes a boot around your foot. Old lefty has plenty of different styles for hunting,and you can pick your sole of choice,not to mention leather,arch etc. Might be to late to get a pair custom made,but he might have a style that was returned that might fit you, for about half the price.
I have been using the russell high country hunter for decades,it is not a" lite" boot, but it is waterproof up to the top,tough as nails, and I know I will never twist an ankle in them.

I have some Lowa GTX Renegades that are nice. I like all leather. The boots with nylon in them pick up thorns pretty easy.

You might look at Kenetrek also. They make a light hiker now. I use their heavier mountian boot in steep terrain and they are a good tough boot. For the more mild terrain, you have lots of comfortable options.

I have a pair of Belleville tactical research.....they would be excellent for that terrain....and not so pricey.

I purchased these boots a few months ago and love them already. Can't wait to test these out this season. You get what you pay for in regards to footwear IMO.

I've had good success with the "Pronghorn" by Danner.
I prefer the uninsulated for archery here in Montana.

i wear these as well. just putting them on in the store showed me the break-in period was gonna be short. the boots are damn comfy. i bet i could jog in them. i agree, in AZ, the renegades shed thorns fairly good. the laces still grab them.

i only wear them for hunting. no daily wearing. they just dont seem that robust to me. i'm hoping they are strong and last a long time, but i am not taking chances. i only wear them when i need them. i am a much faster hiker with these boots. over my heavy Schnee's mountain boots. they are a very good boot. could use bigger lace hooks tho..that are very tiny and sometime difficult to "hit" squarely with the lace..especially in the dark, huddled in a tiny tent vestibule.

I'll admit to being a Danner fan. I'm from Oregon and have worn them my entire life. However, I did try a pair of Under Armour Wall Hanger. Pretty darn impressed. Horn hunted and scouted in them for months now and no problems. Even better, no break in for me or my dad.

I also took the UA plunge on boots, hunted with the last fall in CO pretty hard, over 50 miles in 6 days, and was very impressed. Uninsulated. I did however, give them 3 coats of the camp dry spray stuff weeks in advance, and, combined with kennetrek gaiters, my feet never did get wet or sore (well, any more than usual). Had bad luck with danners, so tried UA, and plan on wearing them back in the mountains this year.

^^^ This. And REI has the best return policy on boots. If you're not carrying a heavy pack, Merrels will work great. The Salomon Quest 4D GTX are great boots, along with the Cabela's Meindl's. Salewa makes a good one too but they run narrow. Basically, they better fit like tennis shoes when you try them on. If they don't, put them back and keep looking.
