Guys I'm new to the forum. Going on my first elk hunt this fall to new mexico and need some info.

1. currently I'm shooting fmj in 430 grain weight, i was wondering if i needed to increase arrow weight in case of an accidental marginal shot. I've been reading a lot about the 650 grain arrows with the ability to punch thru bone.

2. i shoot rage broad heads for whitetails but the outfitter only allows fixed blades. Ive narrowed it down to slick tricks, anarchy broad heads, or silver flames. Does anyone have experience with the anarchy broad heads?

3. What workouts do you do to prepare for the hunt. its more of rolling hills terrain that we are hunting and its between 5000 and 6000 ft, so nothing terribly steep.

1) Hard to tell without knowing what speed your arrow is at. I will say the arrow I'm shooting is right around 430 grains.

2) Don't have any experience with any of these broadheads but I have heard lots of good things about slick tricks.

3) I've been running several times a week, 3-4 miles. I've also been hiking a couple miles with a 70 lbs. pack a couple times a week.

Of those I'd go with the Slick tricks. But first I'd have a look at the Magnus Black Hornets. Heavy duty cut on contact head that flies great.
