Warm base layer...(wool?)

Looking to replace my sitka base layer long underwear as it is prety much worn out,and not keeping me warm.Looking at first lite wool base layers,or any other option that is out there to keep warm in sept.while sitting on wallows all day.Some of the deep holes don't see sun all day, and are extremly cold,and I froze my keester off last year at one of my favorite wallows,and it took all the fun out of it.
I'm looking for any feed back on warm base layers, and maybe the next over over that,or something I could pack in, and put on after I get to my spot,lightweight,and packable.Hearing good things about the wool.

First Lite's long underwear is pretty good, and provides plenty of warmth. I hunt all day in them on November hunts. For September though, I would recommend throwing them in the pack for the hike in, and then throw them on before you sit the wallow.

I like to use either ibex or minu33 wool myself. I even wear ibex in the winter for skiing and stay plenty warm with theirs. I think the big thing to look at is they have different weight wools so go with the higher number to stay warm

My personal opinion is that Smartwool and Icebreaker are leagues ahead of any other company as far as comfort and durability go.

Ive found the stuff from minus33 to be lacking in durability. And the long johns are not exactly long. Maybe the country its made in doesnt have any people in the 6ft range

I am a Smartwool fan myself. Has held up well and works great. Wicks very well and keeps you toasty. Icebreaker is good as well, no complaints on them either.

Big fan of KUIU here. I've worn there stuff in 30 degree weather with 15-20 mi/hr winds and was just fine. 125 base with 210 mid and Kenai Jacket. I've also hunted in a Sitka Duck Oven in similar temps and didn't feel the chill.

I have some First Lite and Smartwool as well. Like them both. Have really been impressed with the Merino wool items.

Eastmans Hunting Journal just had a good article on wools.
My oldest two of my daughters have switched to wool base layers.

I just ordered two pair of the icebreaker core bottoms on camofire,200 weight merino,can't beat 60% off.

i have some synthetics from BassPro that are super warm. and some from Duofold that are years and years old. super warm.

you cant deny the performance of man-made stuff. i wear it when i am truck camped..when i can take it off and stuff it into a plastic sack for decontamination later. it will reek..two days MAX. if i am limited in gear space. i wear my first lite stuff. way better smelling, but i think it is a tad less warm. and despite buying some camo colored first lite llano..(i cant get the names straight) i find it too snaggy to wear unprotected from a jacket. it hooks burrs way too easy.

Thanks you guys,pointysticks was starting to make me worry.....LOL. This is just the start of my wool layering,would also like to get a heavy set of bottoms that i can put on after I get to my spot,and also a wool hoodie,and also a thin next to skin extra base layer top.
