Clark Fork Outfitters

I was just wondering if anybody had ever hunted with Clark Fork Outiffters in Idaho, or knows anybody that has? I am going there September 14-18 with both my brothers and my dad to elk/deer hunt. Just curious as to what I should expect. Thanks for any info.

Jacob, North Idaho is steep, thick, and rugged be prepared to work hard for your elk or elk encounters. The wolves have hit that area hard for several years, the elk population is way down. I don't want to sound like a downer just being realistic, there are much better areas in Idaho.

I didn't want to be the one to say it but that's the reality of it. It is thick and so you won't actually see tons of animals. I know guys who have killed elk up there and said it was the only one they actually laid eyes on. Lyn from Clip-Shot lives in that neck of the woods so he can probably tell you more. The other thing I would say is you get what you pay for and I looked at his website and the hunts are what I'd call dirt cheap.

But... you only need one elk right!

Thanks for the info guys. My brother has been in contact with the owner ever since last year. He said that they didnt kill any elk last year, but it wasnt because they didnt have them in range.This wouldn't have been my first choice as a place to hunt, but it's affordable and it's a trip with my dad and both my brothers. This will probably be the only time that we all get to go on a hunt together like this. I think we will have a good time regardless if we kill an elk or not. I have a tag for both deer and big game, so I hope to at least release an arrow on something.

I'm not familar with the outfitter,but have hunted the same national forests that you will be in since the 80's.Yes, it's steep,dark and and very rugged country,but elevation isn't so bad,at 3,500' or so.
The great thing about going with an outfitter in this type of country is he will be familiar with the erea,is he will know where the wallows, and saddles are,and these are great places to hang out during the middle of the day.Also, being very thick,and your hunt being in the middle of the rut,it is not hard to get close to a bugling bull in this country.There are also lots and lots of bears here,and it is simple to get them to come to a bait,something you might want to consider.Unless the regs have changed, a non res.panhandle elk tag is also good for a bear or a cat,and if you get real lucky,and there are any left(and there always is)you can purchase a second elk tag.FYI.
It's all dark timber,and very few, if any parks to glass,but on the flip side,there are huge bull elk here, not to mention whitetails,mulies,and big bears and cats.This is wild,rugged untamed country, but that is what makes it so great,and I'm sure you will have a blast.
