Vortex Viper HD vs Razor HD

Postby Ben Nicholson » 05 14, 2015 •  [Post 1]

I'm thinking about selling my 10X42 Diamondbacks and upgrading to a pair of 8X42 Vipers or Razors. Have any of you used both? Are the Razors worth $600 more? I've looked at both in the store, but that doesn't compare to using them all day and in low light conditions. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

My little 8x32 viper hd 's are plenty bright for me. No way do I need anything brighter and I've spent some time behind some nice glass.

Ben, the Razors have a little wider field of view & better low light viewing. They will best the Viper HD's by aprox 15 min at low light. It's not a huge difference but those are the major differences between the two. The Vipers are no slouch but the Razors will best them!

I just pulled the trigger on a Vortex Viper HD 15x50. My son in law just got the viper HD 12x50. Both are the same size and the same size approximately the same size as my old Nikon Monarch 10x42. Major upgrade. I did check out the Razors and they were slightly brighter in a side by side comparison. My asessment was that the Viper HD was the best value for the money. I am so absent minded and hard on equipment that I cannot be trusted with 1000 dollar plus binoculars. Just like I cannot be trusted with 200 dollar sun glasses! You can't hardly go wrong with either. Razors are better but Viper HD are good enough in my opinion.
