How Many Arrows

So I am looking to buy a tight spot Quiver. But cannot decide to buy the 3 or 5 arrow model. I like the 3 arrow model becasue is smaller and I prefer to not carry 5 arrows. Majority of my hunting is Whitetail in a tree stand which I know a 3 arrow quiver is just fine for. However,i go elk hunting every September and do a bit of walking up and down mountains, but always go back to a base camp each night. Again I prefer to have a 3 arrow quiver for this as its lighter and not as bulky when pounding the brush, but seems like most everyone carries 5 arrows.
My thought is 3 arrows should most always be enough for a day hunt in the mountains. I of course will have extra arrows back at camp. But wondering what people think about carrying 3 arrows in your quiver in the mountains elk hunting each day?
If you shoot an arrow or 2 or lose an arrow or 2 that day I can always re-stock up when I get back to camp as I always have 8 arrows with me at camp. I guess the real question here is has anybody been day hunting and went through more than 3 arrows before getting back to camp?

Well when I had my 3 arrow quiver I shot over the back of a bull 3x as he got closer( wrong pin)
He knew something was up but count resist the sweet cow 27,22,33 yards away(me)
My new quiver has 5

This last year I shot 3 arrows at a cow that was 70 yards out, lost 2 and bent my broadhead on the other. I came upon them when I came around a corner on the road, and they were feeding in the ditch, excitement got the best if me hate to say it. But I still had 2 arrows in my quiver, and a 3 mile bike ride to the truck. I shoot 60 yards at home, and I thought I could do 70, not.

Go for the 5 arrow the weight you will save with a 3 ain't worth it I think.

Where do you hunt? Must not have grouse...if you did you wouldn't be asking such a question. One of the younger guys we hunt with one time pinned a hen to the ground and she thumped her wings. Well every male within ear shot came out and he emptied his quiver. I have no idea how many arrows he shot, but I know it was more than 5.

I carry 4 with both Longbow & Compound. My son carries 5 in either! It seems to be OK in most cases!

5 all day and twice on Sunday. Would you rather carry 3 or 5 rounds in your hunting rifle? Two more arrows don't weigh that much.

like everyone 5 arrows quiver. you can allway take 2 arrows out for whitetail

Buy the 5 arrow quiver. More insurance if you were to fall and break one or two.

Most definitely the 5 arrow quiver. I'd feel like I was out there naked if I had 3 arrows:).

My quiver carries 4.
I always practice with 3 in the quiver so everything will be exactly the same for the most important arrow connected to the string.
The words of the old timer, who got me started with archery, still ring in my ears, " It takes only 1 arrow, but a quiver full of self discipline."
So, I practice with this in mind, and I have yet to take a shot much over 25 yards.

If the extra weight is an issue, I'd suggest going with the 5 and packing only 4.

It's better to have one left, then watch an elk walk off becouse your one short.

But on the other hand, a archer should wait for a shot that he or she can make a good kill and hit his mark! If a archery just want to fling arrows in the air hoping for a hit. That archer needs to put the bow down and start fishing...

More arrows are insurance. You generally don't think you need insurance, right? You drive safely. You don't think your house will burn down. But, it happens...

I watched a skilled friend run out of arrows on a wounded doe mule deer a few years ago. He made a bad shot at last light, and we came back in the morning. She was alive. I forget how many times he missed that doe to finisher her...at least 4 times. He ran out of arrows. we were searching for his shot arrows, just so he could keep shooting. He finally got it done with a borrowed arrow. Not a great example, and not what we should hope for. But when things go bad...and they can go bad for all of us...you don't want arrows to be a limiting factor.

I wish tight spot made a 7 arrow quiver....

I use the 5. With that being said, I always have a grouse arrow in it.

I ran out of arrows one nite chaseing a wounded black bear around in the Idaho nowhere,I believe I had my black widow recurve, and a three arrow quiver.had to make a spear with my knife.My throw landed just short of the bear, but the stick flipped up and landed on him. I have a great VHS tape of the"spear throw",and whole ordeal,right up till the bear came at us....we got him,but it was all pretty stupid,looking back at it......

I use a 4 arrow quiver. Plenty of arrows but not too bulky.
