Bow Sling

Any thoughts or recommendations on if I should get one, if so where to look and what kind/brand?

There are a few out there but the Primos Bow Slilng is the brand I've used for a handfull of years. It has soft cups for the cams and a fold over sleeve that snaps over the string/cables (although the snaps are not really needed to keep the sling on the bow). I mainly have used the bow sling while riding my MT bike or quad with decent results. Nope, they're not the most comfortable piece of gear but serve the purpose pretty well. I never use a bow sling when hiking as I will have my bow in hand, or, for xtreme type hikes (where I need hands free), I'll strap my bow onto my pack. Here's a pic of the Primos sling; I think they're around 25 bones.

Phantom, thanks for the details.

So for beating the trail in the mountains you wouldn't necessarily recommend it? It looks like it might take a few valuable seconds to get your bow ready if you walk up on some elk and need to get an arrow knocked right away. Which I assume is one con to using it while mountain hunting on foot in the elks backyard. You mentioned strapping it to your pack while walking through the mountains? What do you use for that?

Luke, I would never not have my bow in hand while hunting on foot. I can't think of a time I would use a bow sling while on foot, but that's just me. If I'm hitting a long hike in or out of an area during the hours of darkness, packing out a load of meat on an elk I shot (I'm not in hunting mode anymore), or perhaps negotiating some very extreme terrain during a hunt, I'll use the straps on the back of my pack to lash my bow on. Some pack companies make actual pack/bow carriers (I know Eberlestock has something called a bow bucket), that actually works pretty well and has kind of a "quick release" system. All this said, it only takes a few second to deploy your bow from the Primos sling.. just a few snaps and it's ready to go. I personally will only use a bow sling when on a MT bike, motorcycle, or quad.. While on foot, my bow is in my hand.

I like the GamePlan Gear Snap Shot. It is quite to take on an off, and you can shoot with it on as well as long as you assure the sling will not foul the cams.

I'm with phantom on the primos bow sling.I use the sling when navigating on my dirt bike from erea to erea,but never when hunting.What I like about the primos is that it protects the cams and string.
