New elk country for us.

]Well maybe.
As long as my in-laws remain healthy we plan to elk hunt where we bear hunt along the continental divide the past three Friday-night/ Saturdays we have seen 3-8 groups of elk each week.

The Saturday of the 11th my wife and I set up our " room". For reading, waiting for black bears and a seconds notice if a grizzle decided to visit

Sadly we were able to ATV to the continental divide two weeks ago.

April 18, a bright frosty morning of 21 degrees, A nice place to wake up to. My daughter helped set out baits and slept in until 7:15

What we woke to yesterday. We ended up with 3 more inches of snow later in the morning. My wife stayed in the tend while I glassed for bear., deer moose and elk were "everywhere" . I suspect fresh, green grass on the lower south slopes was a big draw.

My father in law has covered a lot of ground in his life and we introduced him to the area; Weve spent the last 6 years stomping around the area

Are we suppose to see bear?s No not this year, nothing hit the baits except martin ravens/crows and a red fox

Kodiak is a copy of Spring bar The one tent is a Springbar that belongs to our Scout troop. Our troop has 10 of them all 15 years old, each with separate issues I take a different tent or two when I think the weather will be nice to find out which tents need help/ repairs etc.

The yellow fly tent I picked up at Deseret Industries ( like goodwill) For$ 5.00, I wanted the screen mesh. I think the tent was too complicated for the purchasers to set up The tent was originally sold by Sams Clubs. I wanted floor space and I expected the shape to shed the snow Friday night.

As far as a spring bar style tent they are quite incredible for a tent . Out scout troop has 4 different sizes. They have taken a lot of abuse from scout camps, girls camps (the hard life) and family camps.
What I have seen if reasonable taken care of they are tough, but stupid things have happened to most of them, fire-ash holes, kids with knives, playing tackle football inside a tent is hard on screens and Zippers, and inserting pole inside each other , then driving over them
I have slept in 70 mph winds in my tent one just like the one picture. The bigger Spring bar tents we have had on scout outings with winds 55 plus. The only problem is the pipes will howl. Staked down correctly they seem to want to stay in place.
Being able to stand in them is nice and they are quick to set up

You mentioned pretty country. My father- in law started hunting the Montana side 40 miles away when he thought it was "pretty elk country"
I realized Ive seen elk within 100 yards of each picture at least once in the past 6 years,.. seems to make it even more pretty
