Tent Stove

If buying a new stove would you like the option of a glass window in the door.

Welcome to the Elk Forum, I voted no. No need to have a glass door at all in a camp stove, the glass would blacken as usual on nearly any woodstove, they generally are more costly as well, too, glass is more fragile for those rough mountain roads. I'd want a good sturdy steel stove that was basically bullet proof!

I enjoy a fire, and don't care for smoke. Maybe someday when my camps are more than a night or two I would add a stove and wall tent.
Well Im actually thinking of making a tent.
How about putting the glass on the long side of the stove instead of the door, A bit of added light, and could check the fire without opening the door.


I havent had heat in a tent for 20 years. I just end to use a heavier sleeping bag. When I warm up food or cook I cook out in the open.

I would have to vote no on the glass,but yes on seeing the firelight.
I would be afraid of breaking the glass,and as Paul mentioned,it would get sooted up.
Last year was my first experience with any kind of heat in the tent,as I upgraded to a wall tent,and a wood stove,as three or four days of rain makes it impossible to dry my gear by just a fire alone.It also is much more comfortable!
My stove has vents in the door that lets fire light out, and helps me keep a check on the fire.I find this very relaxing to watch any fire,however small it may be.
I do not cook on the woodstove,however,and use my little propane stove"outside" to cook on.

wood stove for your tent I vote no for the window

If you do go for the window. Ammonia is effective for removing the smoke on the glass.
