Are many of you guys sleeping in the back of your truck on your archery elk hunt
I have a Leer topper that needs $350 worth of glass.
Years back I used t sleep in the back of my truck. Im thinking of switching back from the tent to the topper during rifle deer and archery elk

The coldest I've ever been was camping in the back of a truck while turkey hunting in Southern Illinois. I'm guessing it had something to do with the wind blowing under the truck. That's just a guess. At any rate, I've stuck with a tent ever since.

If you can stay off the truck bed, on a cot or something it ain't bad I know a few guys who hunt/camp like that all the time. Just watch the head room in the morning, and getting up to pee in the middle of the night sucks.

I use to and loved it. I made just a simple carpet kit type set up to get us above the wheel wells. Probably costs $15-$20 to make and through in a couple of 3" foam mattresses and slept like a king. It's super mobile and easy. I have a trailer now (three little girls at home) and miss the simplicity and easiness of just hopping in the truck bed at night and not having to set everything up if I change locations.

I have done it a couple times fishing and it's great as long as you have something between you and the bed.

Im planning on getting a canopy to do just that. I figure a memory foam pad cut to fit the bed will make it plenty comfortable. Well, other than the fact that if i lay out completely straight my head brushes the forward end and the soles of my feet are on the tailgate.

Camped in back of GMC, it was pretty posh w carpet, pads and a quilt under my bag. A Coleman fuel 2 mantle lantern heated it well. Last Sept I
took the longer rear seat bottom out of my Pathfinder, that added 10" of length to sleeping area. Not as roomy as the pickup topper but not bad, my 6' fit stretched out. Might want to skip arming the door lock alarm

I sleep in the back of my Silverado. It has a 6 1/2 ft bed. I saved an old but hardly ever used twin size matress from the kids bunk bed. I can place the matress on one side and store food and drink beside it in front of the fender well. I have a small coleman one burner stove I place behind the fender well. I can sit on the bed with enough headroom to cook up some breakfast or supper. I keep my clothes in the back seat of the truck to keep them away from the food and cooking smells. It works great mobile and comfortable.

i do it all the time.

google Thermorest DREAMTIME sleeping pad. my buddy got one for himself and his wife. he divorced his wife and i borrowed her pad. it is almost as good as my home mattress!! my tacoma has a 6' bed, so i am pushing it. i go diagonal and i can survive. i love it!! it is the best way to sleep before packing in. you dont have to tear thru your pack to set up a tent, you get a good nights rest before the morning hike..it is awesome.

my worst hike i drove all night, got there in the morning and started hiking. it sucked..now i get there the day before,sleep in my truck..load up and hike. way better.

I have done it twice in the back of a 15 passenger van. It was great spent 10 nights out of it. Had a generator on a trailer hitch carrier. Freezer inside to keep my antelope. Would take me 10 min to set up have my stove and cooking table, my archery target, microwave, generator and tv if I wanted. Passed most of the time cause that is not why I am there. But have loved it.

I sleep in that back of my silverado 1/2 ton short box regularly. The guy I bought my topper from had a carpet kit he threw in with the topper which elevates me and provides storage underneath. I bring with a folding table, two burner propane stove, and two bins of camping gear and I have a nice camp that's set up in about 5-10 minutes. I can comfortably sleep two in the back, but now that my daughter and wife (and eventually our two youngest) are getting into hunting I may need to consider a pop-up pretty soon.
