Could yall give me some info and general areas that could help a first time elk hunter? I bowhunt all over on public land but this is my first time trying my hand at elk. The Gunnison National Forest is a very beautiful but also very rugged area! Get in shape! Then get in twice as good of shape as that!! Study your maps.

The Gunnison national forest is massive and encompasses quite a few units...have you narrowed down which unit you'll be hunting?

Many of the units are draw, so if you have not put in you will have to wait. Check the regs.

This is correct, pretty much every unit in the Gunnison NF is a draw unit. Did you put in for a draw? Were you planning on hunting this year? If so, are you open to other areas or is there a reason you picked Gunnison NF over others?
