corrected vision, hunting and bow sights?

Bear with me for a minute. I use contact lenses, have for many years... ok three decades. I'm nearsighted but over the past few years I am have more trouble focusing on close objects. I will need, or already need reading glasses or bifocals. My current prescription is a compromise between seeing far and being about to focus close without giving me a headache, but things are getting worse year after year.

I know in the pistol world you are suppose to concentrate on your front sight and my understanding is it is similar with archery. On my last bow hunt a friend was helping me and he could see and identify deer without binoculars while I was having trouble even seeing them, this was at 200 yards. The flip side to this story is I discovered he also couldn't read his speedometer when we were driving back to camp, meaning he is farsighted. Seems life is a compromise in all things.

And to complicate things, If I read the law correctly in my state (New Mexico) I can't use a "clarifyer" in my peep sight, I realize that it is doubtful that a ranger would find fault but I'm confrontation averse and would rather not put myself in the potential situation. Also I am not even sure it would help in my situation.

When I'm at the local indoor range, which is limited to 20 yards I can't see my bright green fletching in the yellow or red paper target.

What is more important to the more experienced and sight compromised bow hunters, seeing your pins clear or seeing your target clear? (i.e. bias the vision correction towards good near vision or far vision?)
Anyone have success with lasix?

Idaho is the same way! Same rules! Go with the Verifier, it's generally legal & is the same as wearing eye glasses! I use the # 5 Verifier & wow what a difference!

Welcome to the wonderful world of aging eyes. I have the same issues. A clarifier is made to be used in a two lens system. You use these with target sights that have a lens in them. A verifier you use with a sight that doesn't have a lens, this will make your pins clear. Verifier lenses don't work if you wear corrective lenses. I focus on the spot that I want to hit and let the pin blur and float over that spot. You'll have to see which works better for your eyes, focusing on pin vs target.

Lasix works well. I've not had it done but know several that have and most are very happy. I won't have it done until the complication rate is 0%. No matter how low it is, real people make up that number and you only get two eyes.

Yeah Jmez I miss my 30s when my Ophthalmology was disappointed that my vision didn't change.

I think, if I draw this year, I'll pick up stronger contacts and a verifyer. They guys at the local shop say as long as the optic doesn't magnify it's legal in NM. The shop also said they will work with me regarding trying out different lenses.

I called and talked to the people at Specialty archery. If you wear glasses or contacts the verifier is likely not going to work and they don't recommend using one. The verifier works like a pair of reading glasses. It talks about it on their FAQ's page. I wondered if you could use the clarifier and have your regular glasses be the second lens in the system and no go there either.

They basically said good luck. Talked to my ophthalmologist about it as well and his recommendation was to use a smaller peep, as small as I could get away with. This would make the target be in focus for you. Other than that not much you can do.
