Water Filter

I have one of the water bottles with the squeeze top that has the filter attached. You suck the water from the bottle, through the filter, straight to your mouth. Supposedly each filter is good for 100 gallons. Has anyone ever used one similar? I am just looking for something easy and lightweight.

I have not but I have used a buddy's Steri-Pen. The thing I don't like about them is even though the water may be virus and parasite free you don't eliminate sediments. But it doesn't get any lighter and smaller than that.

Sawyer Products PointOne Squeeze Water Filter....... I love my "Sawyer" Water Filter. It's very light easy to use you can screw it right to a clear plastic water bottle, a person doesn't need 3 hands like the pump kind and its good for a million gallons of water. Check them out on you tube. I bought mine on line from Walmart fairly cheap $40 it came with 3 bags and the filter.

Last year I used both a Sawyer Squeeze and a Katadyn pro hiker. At the end of the day it comes down to how you're going to use it...

I started out with the Sawyer as it was the lighter and "simpler" of the two. I would fill the small squeeze bottle they supplied, then squeeze through the filter into my water bladder (I'd set up quick disconnects for this). The problem was, it was a pain in the neck and was taking me a long time to fill the bladder. If you're just looking for something to drink out of the squeeze bottle - I'd imagine it would be better.

Switching to the Katadyn pro hiker, I'd come up to the stream, pull out the pump, hook it up to the quick disconnect on my drinking tube, pump the bladder full without ever removing it from my bag, and then put the pump away. Ended up being quicker and easier because I wasn't continuously refilling the small squeeze bottle, even though it was heavier.

As long as I'm using the bladder, I love the ease of filling so I won't end up going back to the Sawyer. Where I may use it, is if I have two bladders set up in camp and want to "gravity" fill - using one as a dirty/unfiltered bag, and then letting it flow down through the filter into the clean bag...

I switched to the Sawyer in line last year and really liked that setup. I had my pump along as well and left it in camp after the first day. I didn't use the squeeze filter but the one placed inline on my water bladder. It was simple, just dunk the bladder and fill it up when you come to a water source.

My daughters both just said a fellow from work drank from water full of grydia (sp) and said he's still alive (never got sick ) and stale trough water with the inexpensive Sawyer.
