Anyone know anything on Weminuche Wilderness?

Ok so I just spent the weekend looking over my new cabin that sits 20 yards off of Vallecito Resv. I was able to drive to a couple trailheads that lead into Weminuche Wilderness. I was wondering if anyone here might have some info on the place. I am not planning on hunting the area as I'll be hunting the Steamboat area. I am wanting to do some 3 and 4 day backpacking trips and trail running. I am looking for good routes to take, water availability, blow down/ no blowdown, whats the bear situation like. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Congratulations on your cabin! Did you move there from Bfield? Some pics would be great. I hiked up a stock driveway trail on Missionary Ridge through aspens, w a few elk around, one May day several years ago. Nice hike.

I am moving from Denver to Vallecito but I did get my PO box in Bayfield. Nice little town.

NICE! I was out there a couple of summers ago and spent the weekend on the lake. I loved it. I was really wanting to hike up to Emerald lake and do some scouting on the north side but my girls were a to little to make the trip. But on the map it sure looks like a good place to set up camp. Have you met the outfitters that live on the lake?

I've never hunted the Weminuche but have done 7+ day backpacking excursions every summer since 2008 with the exception of 2012.

I always wander up the Vallecito trail but have gone no farther than the mouth of Sunlight Creek. There are three river crossings, the first two have a bridge but the last must be forded because an avalanche took out the bridge. The first two miles are the most difficult as you must climb up and over a canyon but beyond that the trail is relatively easy. There are quite a few horse packers and I have never seen bears but have seen some scat and foraging up in the high altitudes.

I didn't have a chance yet to network with any of the locals besides my friend who owns Pine River Lodge but she did give me Eric Fenstermacher card along with Randy Wagner card. I guess both of them are guides that live on the lake.
