Wyoming "General" Tag Question

I have an easy question for you guys. But I cannot seem to find the answer in the WY regulations. I have never been through the application process in WY.

If I get a General tag, is it good only in a specific unit, or is it good in all General Units? Can you move freely between the general units as long as you are still within season dates for the unit you are hunting at the moment?

The Special Archery Season license regulations says you " may hunt any elk in the hunt area (s) or portion of hunt area (s) specified in Section 2. Section 2 lists numerous adjacent units with the same season dates.

For instance, could I hunt in unit 104, then hop over to 103 if I was having trouble finding elk (both are general tag units)? Could I hunt unit 36 Sept. 1, then move to 21 Sept 16 (both are general units, but are different hunt areas in Section 2?

I know that if I do not get an elk during the archery season, that I can return later and rifle hunt on the same tag. Love that provision.

You have it correct Curly. The General license is good in any and every unit that doesn't not require a limited draw license. In other words they are not unit specific. And as you already know they are good for both bow and gun. Season dates vary by unit. When I rifle hunt I may hunt the opening day in a couple different areas.

Don't forget to buy the required conservation stamp and make sure you check to see if the unit you hunt in does or does not require a Feedlot Stamp. Units where Fish and Game supplements elk with winter feed require that as well.

Yes. I don't know about the rest of the state but in the Jackson region there are many feed grounds similar to the National Elk Refuge, but smaller of course, where they feed hay during the winter. Any unit that has one requires all hunters to purchase the stamp. I never saw that in the regs either Buzz and only became aware of it the first time I hunted there and my buddy made sure I had one. To be honest I'm not even sure if you can buy it online but it is an over the counter item. I know one thing for sure though.... when you stop at the game check they will ask to see it.

Here's the section from the 2014 regs that discuss the requirement for the feedground permit... Basically if you hunt in areas 70, 71, 75, or 77 thru 98 you'll have to pony up another $12.50.

Section 6. Elk Feedground Special Management Permit. The Department’s elk
feedground program is a special management program that requires additional
expenditures for the feeding of wildlife. An Elk Feedground Special Management Permit
shall be required of any person who hunts elk in the Hunt Areas identified in subsection (a)
of this section. The Elk Feedground Special Management Permit shall be in possession of
any person while hunting elk in those hunt areas and shall be immediately produced upon
request from an authorized Department representative. Any person who purchases
an Elk Feedground Special Management Permit for the purpose set forth in this section
shall sign his name in ink across the face of the permit. Hunters who acquire an elk
feedground special management permit through the Electronic Licensing Service (ELS) shall
not be required to meet the signature provision of this section. The permit shall be available
at Cheyenne Headquarters, Department regional offices and at designated license selling
agents.

Thank You kindly IS. Just wanted to make sure that I was not mistaken in my reading of the regs. WY regs are complex with the "regular" draw, the "special" draw, the "random" draw, and the "preference Point" draw, but they do make sense once you understand them. I like that you still may have a small chance at a tag even without preference points, and I understand the need to generate revenue from license sales.

You have more than just a small chance. You can guarantee a license with no points if you want to.

Yes, Thank you Sir...

I purchased my NR Archery and Conservation Stamp on-line, printed out, etc... But no Option for on-line for the Feed Lot. I'll call early next week and see if I can do it my check and snail mail.

If I told you that I'd have to kill you. Unless of course I sold you a hunt plan in which case I help with license applications and you'd get one 100% guaranteed for sure the first time you applied and with no points.
