Crossbow Elk Kill?

Anybody hunt a week with a crossbow (non tree stand or non ground blind) and kill one?

Greg... did you know crossbows are legal for anyone in Wyoming? Here is an incredible public land bull killed with one this past season. I believe we had a thread on this bull before. It was the 2nd bull the guy ever killed and the crossbow was borrowed from a friend. Official B&C score is 408. Tell Frank to buy one so he can lend it to you!

I saw the thread on that monster. No need to borrow one as I have one. Shoulder is dropping poundage about 5#/yr with compound so was checking to see how big of a pain it would be to haul a crossbow all over the place for a week! Hell getting old.

I own a crossbow. It's a Barnett Ghost 350. I rarely use it. Bought it because I seem to have to own one of everything. That thing is a HUGE pain in the butt to carry around. I might consider it for a stand hunt but there's no way I'd carry it all over elk country. If I had to though I think I'd just strap it to my pack and pull it off when I set up. Of course we all know what can happen to a hunter with his weapon out of reach like that.

I had a friend that hunted with one, I was surprised in some of the areas & how far he did pack it! They are big, bulky & heavy in comparison to a compound but definitely doable. I'd hunt with one in a hot second if the alternative was not elk hunt at all. (grin) I'd find a few unsuspecting areas inside a mile & go for it, I already have a few that would fit the bill. (grin)

My kid well have to hunt with a cross bow because of a condition he was born with. How are the law in Idaho? I'm sure he well have to get a Dr. note. He is only 6 but I hope he loves the wapiti as much as I do. I am worried, I but him a BB gun for his birthday yesterday, he told me that I can shot it he did not want too I was a sad dad

I have my dad old cross bow that I always bring with me on every archery hunt. If I ever snap a string or something malfunctions on my compound bow I know I have a backup crossbow ready to roll. As long as its legal in the state I am hunting.

For the record... no crossbows in Montana even with a medical condition. Period.
