Tale of the tape: OTC Montana archery elk tag/bull only, 26 September, solo hunt. Nice job! You've successfully called in this respectable satellite right by your current position (you're on your knees at the 6:00 o'clock position, 35 yards from the bull with good cover to your back). There are a handful of elk in this somewhat flat bottomed, pretty wide, semi open SW Montana draw, including one very large herd bull. Thermals are blowing gently downhill from your right to left; it's 0830 in the morning. Home boy has obviously had a mud bath in one of the several active wallows, further down the draw, on his way from the night time feeding area to the bedding area which is where he is heading now. This bull came in "quick" from left to right, bugling several times in response to your calling, stopped, and unfortunately you missed the opportunity to draw/shoot between the :02 to :06 mark on the VID (rats, now a relatively easy shot became much tougher and... he's assumed the "who blinks first" posture"). That's all you get.

Read the situation and tell us what you see and hear, and, what your move may be to take a bull home for dinner.

I'm holding tight and waiting for him to look away. Once he does then I make my move. If not, I've got more to more opportunities and just keep on hunting. I'm into elk so no problem, I'm pretty content

This bull is bugling looking to relocate the bugles he heard as he came running in "quick". I wouldn't have wasted the opportunity to draw between :02 and :08 of the video but for your scenario lest play that out. I am frozen in place not gonna make a sound. Hoping that he turns his head again to look away or re-agust his body to perhaps catch a sound that he thinks is coming from his left like he did before. My initial thoughts are that he believes there is something off to his Left thats why he looked that way. He turned back to the right to cast his bugle away from what ever it may be so that he wouldn't blow anything out of there. I suspect he is going to head that way to his left. So I need to be quick with my draw, settling, and releasing before he gets behind the trees and cover. If he makes it behind that cover I am continuing with what ever got him to respond however I am not looking to blow his ear drums out with it. Rather cast the sound away from him hoping that he circles around the trees and presents another opportunity.

He looked left first to make sure his teammates were not going to steal his prize away from him. now he has turned and looking at me for the darling he came searching.
I am stone - waiting for him to look away and hopefully get a chance to draw. when he does, a cow call will stop him after I draw, and the arrow flies.

I also turn to stone. I didn't read in his behavior that he had me pegged, so I wait. I really hope there is something open ahead of him if he continues straight. In my opinion, before I read the others ideas, I didn't think he was concerned about anything to his left, rather he was looking for whatever sweet darling made those oh-so-seductive sounds a few minutes ago. Kind of a "she has to be around here somewhere...." look. I am also mentally getting ready to draw, whatever it is that kept me from drawing is being fixed if possible without moving.

The other thing I thought of is put my knife between my teeth, throwing the bow away, and charging him hoping to jump on his back and slit his throat.
