New Elk "U" Haul

Didn't put this on the other thread cuz I had already purchased it. Finally was able to make it down south to pick up the new MT bike game cart. It's a bit heavier than the Hawkeye Bilt cart I borrowed last fall (thanks Slim) but IMO, this one is potentially better suited for the task at hand. Protected/covered wheels, slats in the floor vs cargo mesh, long tongue, and a very well built hitch to name a few items that I really like about this one. I'm gonna strengthen up the sleeve that clamps to the seat post with bolts/nuts/lockwashers vs the threaded bolts that came with it (don't like the idea of anything coming loose way back in there). The swivel hitch design on this one is very good and similar to the Hawkeye, allows one to lay your bike down with the cart staying upright, and, if the cart decides to "tip", you and the bike don't tip with it. Gonna do my very best to give a big fat Roosey a ride in it come September during my WA hunt.

Last year I used my modified Burley and my partner used a BOB. Single wheel BOB's don't work when you put an Elk on them..

Disc brakes on your bike are highly recommended when pulling a loaded cart downhill. You can "get away" with the standard rubber brakes on the bike but you must 1. go slow 2. ride both breakes "heavy" going downhill 3. keep your butt and weight on the seat at all times 4. beware when it's wet/slippery. We'll have two carts this year (Duke is making one right now) so splitting the elk in two carts coming out is an option. If we take an elk out in one cart/one trip, the guy not pulling the cart will have a rope in his possession that'll be tied to the back of the cart so help control it a bit. Will let everyone know how it goes after September

Haha love the pic I didn't think to have a buddy as a tail drag. Either way this would be a good year to start bringing a helmet for the loaded trip home.

Just talked to Kelly. He has one assembled cart left, and, will be taking orders for carts to be built. IMO, there is nothing on the market like these things folks.

Boy that thing looks sweet Rory! I wish I hunted areas that would warrant its use. I can't think of one area where it could be utilized here, great idea though! Hope to see photos of your elk in it! (grin)

Sent you a PM. No, he doesn't have an active web page anymore. Cart weighs about 35 pounds I believe. Kelly hasn't been making these things for a while in any quantity as the market seemed to slow down (kind of a niche business). But, he's willing to take orders if folks are intererested in getting one.
