Podcasts In The Works! Any Requests?

Yes sir, we have 1/2 dozen Podcasts done on various subjects from hunting stories & details of the hunt as well as covering various elk sounds & how they apply. We do want to entertain others on this Forum to give some of their own but right now we are working on several here for starters to get the ball rolling. Any Requests on a specific subject? It will be considered, here's your chance! (grin) Thanks!

How cool is this gonna be!! A few potential topics off the top of my head: scouting methods, field dressing techniques/meat care/packing, setups (cold calling/advertising, once in close to a talker, travel or escape route/wallow/waterhole/meadow, hunting with three), early season tactics, still hunting keys to success, patterning elk, dogging the herd considerations/methods, when/how to be aggressive with a bull, solo hunting techniques, conditioning techniques, determining what's going on without a visual on elk (vocalization interpretation only). Anxious to hear what othe folks offer for potential podcast topics.

Yes, How about how to enjoy your elk hunting experience more? Elk hunting is way more than just the kill. Why do we hunt elk? For the fun, experience, spending time with friends, and some tasty meat, right? But elk hunting can be taxing, uncomfortable, and in some cases downright unpleasant. The best part is surely the exhilaration of taking an elk, but most people do not harvest an elk in any given year. How about some of the things that you and others have learned over the years that make for a more enjoyable overall experience. An example may be to bring a Snickers bar to reward yourself for a nasty climb up the side of a mountain that you have to make. Or bring a small seat cushion if you have to glass for a long time. Or some photography tips on getting the grip and grin picture? It would probably be a bunch of random tips, but I bet almost everyone would get something out of it.

One thing that I would love more info on is learning how to pinpoint an elks location. I seem to struggle knowing where and when to set up after a response. I either push to close and bump animals or set up too far away and never get in thier comfort zone.

Like Phantom mentioned above, I'd be all over a Podcast on solo-hunting techniques! (Well, I'll be all over all of em, but you know...lol). I do a ton of solo-hunting and, man, its taken a whooooole lot of messing up over the seasons to put the pieces of the puzzle together in order to get consistent shot opportunities. Always interested in hearing what sorts of techniques other solo guys use. Its definitely a different ball game when you are always your own caller.

Awesome idea. Will be listening do sure! A podcast focused on techniques to kill cows/spikes for those of is who can't shoot the branch antlered bulls without being drawn.

Location calling. Not just what call, but when, where and how. Some make it sound like you just walk around bugling until a bull answers. But how often, best locations, etc.

We hunt OTC Colorado and only hunted early season archery once but are probably going to again this year. What we found before was bulls all alone but bugling a lot! Sometimes morning, evening, sometimes all day. They would answer cow calls but not move in on them. We were not buglers at that time.....getting better now....still in the rookie stage. It seemed to us they were trying to establish a pecking order without real contact with one another. Never seen any cows with the bulls yet. How should one proceed to hunt those bulls? Is the advertising sequence the go to? Is there something else? Later in the season this area becomes quiet for the most part with heavy hunting pressure.... How about a hunt strategy based on that info? Or is it the advertising sequence which was a great podcast! Thanks!!

Of course there are several methods that come to mind depending on the elks mood. When bulls are that vocal & in their bachelor groups they can be cohersed into checking out a cow call but it's not their top priority or else they would be closer to the cow groups themselves! Using the Advertising Sequence at that time is an option as is intercepting them on trails used from feeding to bedding or sitting water they are obviously using. I like the Advertising method here when I can get within 150 yards & in the cover from these bulls, this can really put them in search mode as you draw on their curiosity as to who you are!

Make sure you do not setup where they can see the source of the calling spot! Too, these bulls cannot be hundreds of yards away, if they are be patient & wait until they are in cover or close to it within that 150 yard range. Be persistent with your calling when you are setup but by no means should you be able to see these elk until they are in bowrange! If caller shooter use your shooter wisely! Have him be 50 yards or so from you & it's best if you can see him at least a little bit so you can read his body language. Good Luck!
