Badlands Superday Pack Opinions

I am in the market for a new day pack for next season and I am considering the Badlands Superday pack for my needs. This pack will be used for this years elk hunt but also will be used for our 4 month whitetail season here at home which will be it's main use. All of my deer hunting here is done using a climbing stand and I will also be elk hunting some from my climber also. So my needs are a pack that is tree stand friendly but also able to pack items needed for a full day of elk or deer hunting. We elk hunt from a base camp so I do not need to pack in any camping supplies etc just what is needed for a full day of hunting. I also do not plan to pack out any meat with this pack, I have a pack frame at base camp that will be used to haul out any elk kills. Any reviews, good or bad are welcome.

For what you are asking out of the Superday it is a very good solid pack, I wouldn't hesitate for a second in using it for your described needs. I used one for a couple of years & it's a good one!

In time you will see the need for an all purpose pack during your elk hunt packouts so you can haul meat straight from the kill site, going back to camp to retrieve a pack frame won't cut it after a few successful elk hunts! (grin) You'll put on a lot of extra miles for no reason!

I understand what you are saying Paul and I may just buy an all purpose pack later this year for that reason. The main use of the Badlands pack will be for deer hunting at home except for 2 weeks in elk season. It's about a 3 mile round trip hike to where we try to be at for daybreak in the elk woods and hunt away from there so it could be 5-6 miles round trip. Never really gave that much thought but thanks for bringing it up. I will look into a pack for those needs too, any suggestions?

Any other opinions about the Superday pack are welcomed.

I have an X2 http://www.eberlestock.com/X2%20Pack.htm#/ . Almost got the Badlands. The x2 has some nice areas for tying on a spotter and a tripod. They can be a tricky fit for a tall person.

Is there any " day packs " out there with a meat shelf? Bat wings? Are these a hybrid type pack?

Bryan, Here's an Eberlestck X2 Day Pack style you asked about. This pack does have the seat & batwings with compression straps vertically & horizontally. You can see the photos, one in daypack mode will all day gear, food & water. The other is loaded in the seat & batwings with a hindquarter from a 6 point bull so it's a fairly large one. The pack does pretty good for what it was designed for, it's not as nice as our Exo packs but it's a tough pack & will carry anything you can load on it! (grin) It's 5-lb empty & has an internal frame. Hope this helps!
