What's on your short list of new or replacement items for your 2015 elk hunting gearlist? I'm looking at a few things:

Tags for WA and ID
Dual bow carrier for my RZR.
MT bike handlebar bow mount
New (Xtra) release
Small/lightweight target for hunting camp(s)
Light (warm weather) bow hunting pants
New bow sight
Better holster for my Taurus .44 (gotta check with Dotman on how he likes his FHF gear holster after having it a few seasons)
Spare headlamp (can't have too many headlamps, lol).
New elknut grunt tube (and a few new diaphrams)

What's on your short list for elk gear for this fall?

Contemplating a new tent. Thinking about a Henry Shires Double Rainbow. Have a tent that works but it is fairly heavy and bulky for backpack hunting. My hunting partner got the Double Rainbow last year and it seems pretty solid. Very small and light. Not sure if I'll upgrade this year or not.

Still contemplating a bow upgrade as well. Love my Carbon Element but also like the way the new Carbon Turbo shoots. If I do get a new bow I'll be keeping the Element, have a feeling that is one of those things I would regret selling.

Crampons. Southwest Montana has thrown some nasty weather at me and have taken one to many wipe outs in the snow. They could be very beneficial for steep hikes and not to mention when packing out heavy loads.
Some type of Down or Super Down compressible jacket.
Most of this list is from experiencing cold nasty weather. It isnt necessary but would make the hunt more enjoyable.

Pretty small list. Ive been buying lotsa stuff. Running out of things to blow money on. Maybe i need another gun.

wawhitey, they're a bit bulky by most standards but I've had the ExtremeBeam OSR-800 headlamp for about 6 months now and really like it. It adjusts from wide (flood) to a pretty powerfull, long ranging spotlight and so far, I haven't had any issues with it. They're only 35 bones so about 1/2 the cost of some upper end headlamps I've bought. You "are" the trail cam king, no doubt about it

I could use another headlamp. But I find it hard not to buy another Petzl Tikka. That one looks "floppy" meaning it is weight forward. I'm pretty picky about headlamps. I like minimal weight and compact size. I don't want to know it's even strapped to my head.

This one is a bit different feeling on your head at first Joe but even after razzing in two states from hunting buddies saying I look like a dic# head with it on, they ended up saying they really liked it . It's got a killer flood mode and when you reach up and pull it out a bit, concentates into a far reaching spot beam.. Give it a shot, you might like it.

Thinking about upgrading my backpacking tent. Considering a Hilleberg Anjan 2.
Boots played hell with my feet, so need to buy and break in a new pair, sell the used ones. Had Scarpa - may try Lowa.
Need to get my pack adjusted better, and may need a new waist belt for it.
My Delorme Inreach SE turned off on me a couple times during my trip, so returned it to REI for credit - I'm going to replace that during their annual sale.
I may upgrade my Garmin Montana to the Monterra (Big and Heavy, but it's a multi-purpose unit for me)

And, I'm going to build a bunch of gear storage / organizers for the back of the pickup....

Regarding headlamps, love my Zebralight AA (H502w L2 AA Flood). You can set it up for very dim, medium and very bright. I have one of their flashlights too - it is unreal how good it is with the 18650 Battery (I have the SC600w Mk II L2)

Huh. Nothing lasts forever but I have gone through about 4 of them in 20 years and love them. There are always new products hitting the market and I'm not close minded so I keep my eyes open. But I really have nothing bad to say about the Petzl and no really reason to look elsewhere.

Now if I was looking for a floodlight type specifically for tracking wounded animals I might pick something else. But it would be heavier and bulkier but at that point I wouldn't care because it was the optimum tool for the job and a very important job at that.

I'm pretty well set with my equipment. Having said that, I'm leaning towards getting an Exo pack. I've always been a two pack guy (fanny for a day pack plus a meat hauler). I typically hunt alone so saving an extra trip out to get the hauler is appealing.

i thought i was DONE!

but deer hunting, i noted more often than i found my headlamp turned on in my pack. that could get me hurt!! i bought a great headlamp..bright, long battery life..but i cannot lock my version. it will turn on if something else in my pack bumps it. i will demote it to my truck lamp. BTW..tip!! always have two headlamps. one in your pack, one at truck camp. you dont want to use the pack light for camp because you will forget to put it back. i know this well.

i will get a zebralight and run a AA battery. i want to take the opp to get everything running on the same size battery. makes sense packing.

(oh..i have a new knife coming to me. my first custom!!! but this was a "want", not a "need".)

man, you just missed that tent for sale used at Bushcraft USA. $450..i almost jumped on it, but i could still hear my wife's voice in my head yammering about my knife purchase.

I went with the h52a model last year and was I ever impressed. Eneloop regarchargeables run a long time in that thing and its different brightness settings are awesome.
