Living on a High . . .

Is anybody else still living on a high from their success or near-success this past season?

I'm still on cloud 9 that I finally got it done! What an amazing feat it is to kill a bull with a bow. For those of you who have a dozen bulls under your belt, maybe the feeling of accomplishment isn't quite as shiny as it once was, but for those of you who have worked for years and years to kill your first bull with a bow . . . Man that feels good!

I think about that morning nearly every day, reliving the sights, sounds . . . the beating in my chest.

Just wondering how many of you share this freakish sense of accomplishment this year or each year.

To those of you that didn't score this year . . . all I can say is that it's worth it to keep persisting. I got down right frustrated with elk hunting at times, and I'm sure I will feel that again some day, but persistence brings home the bacon . . . or backstraps.

yes sir Mr. Ltylr, I too remember my first and what a satisfying day it was.

the good thing about it also is that on those years eating soup, that memory soothes the disappointment.

Posts like yours suck! Yep, I didn't get that feeling last year. But on the flip side, posts like yours stoke the fires and make me want that feeling again all the more. Congrats and ride the wave!

Congrats. My season didn't produce a bull but I still had a great time. Your post will fuel my motivation for this afternoon's work out! One of these days hopefully I'll know that feeling!

Although I didn't connect during archery season I was still very successfull in the rifle season. It's bitter sweat for me. I enjoy the hell out of any successful elk hunt however the taste of success with your stick and string is by far a much better taste for me anyways. I always get super depressed this time of year thinking about September and living a full month in my wall tent, getting up early and hearing the sounds of the forest. The smells of pine and clean air. Watching the aspens changing colors. There is never been another time I can recall where I think about something as much as I think about archery elk camp.

The moment I leave camp for the season I start picking apart what all I need to do for the next season. What gear I need or don't need. What areas I want to scout. Who I want to accompany me. My mind is constantly working on how to close the deal. There is something special about archery season. It holds a certain romance that rifle season misses out on.

Congratulations on your success. Hold that feeling so close that you don't let go. It's what will drive you to get out of bed and motivate you when things seam bleak and your drive is at a low.

tyler, i am still a little bitter.... i had both emotions last year. the high of finally getting a shot after a spectacular show that he put on, to the lowest of lows when i realized that i was not going to find him.
james, i am with you. i have all ready started getting new gear for this year. and have been dissecting what happened last year, to be better prepared...
