I know this is probably a dumb question, but just wanted to make sure im reading the rules right. Im going out this yr elk hunting and bringing 3 new buddies with me. It will be there first time out. They dont have a CID # yet which means they have no pp's. So my question is, if i apply for muzzleloader season which is a draw and were applying as a group, my pp's dont mean anything since they go with the group member with the lowest pp amount? Im i understanding this correctly? Thanks in advance and please excuse my ignorance.

Correct. Your group would have 0 pps. Group members can apply for different sex tags, but must share one species, season, hunt code. Groups are disregarded in leftover drawings, all pps become individual apps. No group apps for Private Land Only tags. Rules for group apps are on page 7 of the 2014 CO big game brochure. Good luck!

That's a question only you can answer... Points or People, whats more important to you? You could also put in separately and see if you may draw as a second choice.

Part of my question was in making sure that he understood what he was doing/what would happen to his points along with dismay at him wanting to do so.

Unless he is planning on holding out for a very long time. 12 plus years. Losing three or 5 points is no different then losing zero or one point. Points don't mean anything over quality of hunt. And everyone knows that quality of animal has nothing to do with points until you get into the 12PP and above areas. If a quality hunt requires you to lose three points cause you want to hunt with your friends I think it's well worth it to leave those points on the table. Thats my personal opinion.

My buddies have never been out west and wanted to go with me this year. I love getting new ppl interested into going out west hunting. I guess im not sure on what u mean ill lose 3pp's?

In the past we have always applied 1st choice on a gmu that we knew we wouldnt get drawn for so that we could get a pp. and our 2nd choice was the gmu we planned to hunt the whole time. Im i going about this the wrong way??

You wouldn't lose any points going about it the way you are. The only down side I can see to your method is that your unit has enough tags for 2nd choice as well as enough for the group. If not then none of you will draw.

If ur wanting a bull tag or any of u are wanting a bull tag ur method isn't gonna work most likely. I believe there were a few difficult access units in some units SE & E of Denver but none on the west slope I don't believe.
